  1. 1. Development of low affinity techniques for applications in clinical chemistry

    Author : Lisa Leickt; Avdelningen för klinisk kemi och farmakologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; chromatography performance; acute myocardial infarction; antibodies; creatine kinase MB isoforms; lectins; low affinity interactions; weak affinity chromatography; Clinical chemistry; Klinisk kemi;

    Abstract : An increase in the plasma level of creatine kinase MB (CKMB) has long been used to indicate acute myocardial infarction (AMI). For optimal treatment an early diagnosis is important. An increase in the ratio between the two isoforms of CKMB is seen much earlier than an increase in the total level of CKMB. READ MORE

  2. 2. Identification of SLiMs: Mapping and characterizing motif-based protein interactions

    Author : Muhammad Ali; Ylva Ivarsson; Shoshana Wodak; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Phage display; protein-protein interactions; short linear motifs; PDZ; FERM; affinity; x-ray crystallization; molecular docking; NLS;

    Abstract : During the last twenty years it has become evident that about 35-40% of amino acids in the proteome are in regions that have evolved to remain unstructured. These intrinsically disordered regions contain short linear motifs (SLiMs), which serve as docking sites for protein-protein interactions. READ MORE

    Abstract : Biomolecular interaction analysis to determine the kinetics and affinity between interacting partners is important for the fundamental understanding of biology, as well as for the development of new pharmaceutical substances. A quartz crystal microbalance instrument suitable for kinetics and affinity analyses of interaction events was developed. READ MORE

    Abstract : The human glucose transporter GLUT1 is abundant in red blood cells, the blood-brain barrier and epithelial cells, where it mediates the transport of the energy metabolite, glucose. In the present work some properties of GLUT1, including affinity binding of both substrates and inhibitors, transport rates as well as permeabilities of aromatic amino acids and drug-membrane interactions were analyzed by chromatographic methods.
