  1. 1. Energy consumption transition : final household energy consumption in the case of Sweden 1920-2010

    Author : Mikael Levin; Lars-Fredrik Andersson; Ann-Kristin Bergquist; Thomas Pettersson; Bengt Kriström; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; economic history; households; energy transition; energy consumption; residential; electrical appliances; Carbon dioxide; emission; ekonomisk historia; Economic History;

    Abstract : This licentiate thesis examines households’ final energy consumption over the long run by measuring their final energy use and examining how structural, institutional and economic factors affected the demand for energy in the residential sector during the period 1920-2010, a period covering the transition from traditional to fossil to renewable energy carriers. I believe that wider understanding of the historical energy transition and energy consumption within the residential sector might help us gain important insights into the long-run development and the factors affecting energy consumption among the households. 2. 2. Exploring the Transition to a Low-Carbon Electricity System — Using Agent-Based Modeling

    Author : Jinxi Yang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; investment decisions; agent-based modeling; energy system modeling; open-source model; electricity market; low-carbon transition;

    Abstract : The ability to produce electricity has profoundly shaped human lives. Over time, the sources used for electricity generation have undergone several transitions. Currently, we are navigating a pivotal shift in the electricity system – decarbonization – a journey fraught with a myriad of challenges. READ MORE

  3. 3. Low-Carbon City Initiatives in China : Planning Approaches, Dilemmas and Opportunities

    Author : Guanghong Zhou; Björn Frostell; Karel Mulder; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Low-carbon city; Urban planning; Metabolic approach; Industrial Ecology; Industriell ekologi;

    Abstract : In order to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, tackle climate change and move toward sustainable development, the central government in China has proposed low-carbon city development as the national strategy and relevant initiatives have been taken by local governments. This thesis analyses current low-carbon city programmes and planning approaches in China, identifies limitations and proposes a metabolic approach that could be used to account for physical resources, monitor GHG emissions and involve stakeholders in the planning process. 4. 4. Perspectives on low carbon lifestyles

    Author : David Andersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; GHG emissions; climate change; satisfaction with travel scale; sustainable consumption; materialistic values; air travel; rebound effect.; congestion charge; households; subjective well-being;

    Abstract : Climate change is one of the most severe problems facing the world today. If extensive measures are not undertaken to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions within the near future, the natural conditions under which life depends will change for the worse (Pachauri et al, 2014).
