  1. 11. Protein Modifications by Low Molecular Weight Chemicals Inducing Airways Diseases

    Author : Marina Jeppsson; Avdelningen för arbets- och miljömedicin; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MSight; hemoglobin human serum albumin; nasal lavage; acrylates; organic acid anhydrides; persulfate; biomarkers adducts; mass spectrometry; MoDetect;

    Abstract : Airways diseases are one of the most common health effects in the western world today. It has been shown that low molecular weight chemicals (LMWC) can cause airways diseases. The mechanisms for these diseases are not well known in most cases. Also, methods for biological monitoring of exposure are not available for many of these LMWC. READ MORE

  2. 12. Specific signaling through heteromeric PDGF receptor complexes

    Author : Simon Ekman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; Cell and molecular biology; Cell- och molekylärbiologi; molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology;

    Abstract : Platelet-derived growth factor (PDGF) is a potent mitogen and chemoattractant for mesenchymal cells and exert its effect by binding to two structurally related receptor tyrosine kinases, denoted α- and β-receptors. PDGF binding induces dimerization of its receptors, both homo-and heterodimerization, leading to their autophosphorylation on tyrosine residues and binding of downstream signaling molecules. 3. 13. Studies of PDGF receptor signaling in vitro and in vivo

    Author : Maria Tsioumpekou; Carl-Henrik Heldin; Jean-Baptiste Demoulin; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; PDGF; signaling; cancer; Erk5; kinase; Cbl; ubiquitination; deubiquitinase; pericytes; tumor growth; angiogenesis; low molecular weight inhibitors;

    Abstract : Platelet-derived growth factor receptor (PDGFR) signaling is essential for proliferation, migration and survival of cells of mesenchymal origin; however, its deregulation has been associated with various diseases, including cancer. The aim of this thesis was to clarify the molecular mechanisms of PDGFR signaling regulation. READ MORE

  4. 14. Effects of Processing on Dietary Fibre in Vegetables

    Author : Maria Svanberg; Avdelningen för livsmedel och läkemedel; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; low molecular weight carbohydrates; carrot cultivars; molecular weight distribution; viscosity; water-soluble polysaccharides; processing; Dietary fibre; vegetables; bulking capacity; rats; Food and drink technology; Livsmedelsteknik;

    Abstract : Several beneficial effects have been connected with dietary fibre. Insoluble fibre has a good faecal bulking capacity, whereas soluble and viscous dietary fibre has been shown to have beneficial effects on carbohydrate and lipid metabolism. READ MORE

  5. 15. Low Molecular Weight Organic Acids and Their Aluminium Complexes in Forest Soils

    Author : Patrick van Hees; F. C. Ugolini; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The significance of low molecular weight (LMW) organic acids and their aluminium (Al) complexes in soil solutions of podzolized soils was examined. Methods for the analysis of these compounds and complexes were developed, and the impact of these substances on the weathering and podzolization processes was studied. READ MORE
