  1. 1. An Investigation of Low Temperature Combustion Using high Levels of EGR

    Author : Malin Alriksson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; low soot; low NOx; low temperature combustion; emissions; diesel combustion;

    Abstract : The diesel engine offers good fuel economy and generates low carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions, but it is also a source of undesirably high particulate matter (PM) and nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions, which are subject to increasingly strict legislative limits because of their adverse effects on the environment and human health. Thus, in recent years, several combustion concepts have been developed to meet future legislation requirements, one of which is Low Temperature Combustion (LTC) using high levels of EGR (Exhaust Gas Recycling). 2. 2. Low Temperature Combustion in a Heavy Duty Diesel Engine

    Author : Malin Ehleskog; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LIVC; heavy duty; VVA; Diesel engine; Combustion; soot; EIVC; NOx; LTC;

    Abstract : In recent years, there have been major efforts to reduce engine emissions and fuel consumption. The studies described in this thesis were conducted with the aim of identifying methods for reducing harmful engine-out emissions of soot and nitrogen oxides (NOx) under high load without increasing fuel consumption. 3. 3. Detailed Soot Modelling in Laminar and Turbulent Reacting Flows

    Author : Michael Balthasar; Förbränningsmotorer; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; soot; turbulent; flames; engines; turbines; carbon black; ionization; laminar; Physics; Fysik; Fysicumarkivet A:2000:Balthasar;

    Abstract : In the present work a detailed kinetic soot model is applied to study the formation and oxidation of soot particles in laminar premixed and turbulent non-premixed flames. The soot model used in this study is based on a detailed description of the chemical and physical processes involved in the formation of soot. READ MORE

  4. 4. Optical investigations and characterization of soot of different morphology and maturity

    Author : Sandra Török; Förbränningsfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Laser-induced incandescence; Extinction; Elastic light scattering; mini-CAST; Soot; Brown carbon; Black carbon; Maturity; Morphology; Fysicumarkivet A:2021:Török;

    Abstract : The formation path from small poorly absorbing incipient soot to larger fractal-like strongly absorbing black soot is extensive, and along this path the optical and physicochemical properties of the soot evolve. Soot emitted into the atmosphere may originate from some stage of this process, which will result in a wide spectrum of carbonaceous aerosols in the atmosphere which may interact with the sun and influence the radiative balance of the earth. 5. 5. Characteristics of Particulate Emissions from Low Temperature Combustion and Renewable Fuels : Aerosol Mass Spectrometry of Refractory Carbonaceous Particles

    Author : Vilhelm Malmborg; NanoLund: Centre for Nanoscience; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Emissions; Soot; BC; BrC; ROS; SP-AMS; MiniCAST; Diesel Engine; HVO; RME; Cook Stove; Emissions; Soot; BC; BrC; SP-AMS; ROS; MiniCAST; Diesel Engine; HVO; RME; Cook Stove;

    Abstract : Particulate air pollution is one of the major causes of premature death in the world, and combustion-derived soot emissions contribute strongly to the particulate pollution to which humans are exposed. Black carbon (BC) is one such emission and denotes soot with strong light absorption in the ultraviolet to infrared spectrum. READ MORE
