  1. 1. Low-Carbon City Initiatives in China : Planning Approaches, Dilemmas and Opportunities

    Author : Guanghong Zhou; Björn Frostell; Karel Mulder; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Low-carbon city; Urban planning; Metabolic approach; Industrial Ecology; Industriell ekologi;

    Abstract : In order to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, tackle climate change and move toward sustainable development, the central government in China has proposed low-carbon city development as the national strategy and relevant initiatives have been taken by local governments. This thesis analyses current low-carbon city programmes and planning approaches in China, identifies limitations and proposes a metabolic approach that could be used to account for physical resources, monitor GHG emissions and involve stakeholders in the planning process. 2. 2. Perspectives on low carbon lifestyles

    Author : David Andersson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; GHG emissions; climate change; satisfaction with travel scale; sustainable consumption; materialistic values; air travel; rebound effect.; congestion charge; households; subjective well-being;

    Abstract : Climate change is one of the most severe problems facing the world today. If extensive measures are not undertaken to reduce greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions within the near future, the natural conditions under which life depends will change for the worse (Pachauri et al, 2014). 3. 3. Natural resources and sustainable energy : Growth rates and resource flows for low-carbon systems

    Author : Simon Davidsson; Mikael Höök; Gert Jan Kramer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; low-carbon technology; renewable energy; energy transitions; critical materials; energy metals; material flows; net energy; EROI; life cycle assessment; LCA; growth curves; curve fitting; resource depletion; Natural Resources and Sustainable Development; Naturresurser och hållbar utveckling;

    Abstract : Large-scale deployment of low-carbon energy technologies is important for counteracting anthropogenic climate change and achieving universal energy access. This thesis explores potential growth rates of technologies necessary to reach a more sustainable global energy system, the material and energy flows required to commission these technologies, and potential future availability of the required resources. 4. 4. On the Incentives to Shift to Low-Carbon Freight Transport

    Author : Fredrik Eng Larsson; Teknisk logistik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; low-carbon transport; green logistics; sustainability; operations and the environment; supply chain management; incentive alignment;

    Abstract : The transport sector accounts for approximately 20% of EU-27 greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions, and 27% of U.S. GHG emissions. With the Kyoto Protocol, Sweden and several other nations have agreed to reduce these emissions. READ MORE

  5. 5. Exploring the Transition to a Low-Carbon Electricity System — Using Agent-Based Modeling

    Author : Jinxi Yang; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
