1. Luminescence Properties of ZnO Nanostructures and Their Implementation as White Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs)
Abstract : In this thesis, luminescence properties of ZnO nanostructures (nanorods, nanotubes, nanowalls and nanoflowers) are investigated by different approaches for possible future application of these nanostructures as white light emitting diodes. ZnO nanostructures were grown by different growth techniques on different p-type substrates. READ MORE

2. Secondary chlorophyll a luminescence decay kinetics from green algae and higher plants : mechanisms and application
Abstract : Barley protoplasts were shown to be a suitable experimental system for studies on the relative maximum during the decay of luminescence observed in most photosynthetic systems after excitation with far red light and in the presence of O2. The far red induced relative luminescencemaximum was shown to be a result of three coinciding events:*Randomization of the S-states of the water splitting system during illumination with far red light. 3. Scanning Tunneling Microscopy Induced Luminescence Studies of Semiconductor Nanostructures
Abstract : This thesis treats scanning tunneling luminescence (STL) investigations of semiconductor nanostructures. The STL technique combines scanning tunneling microscopy (STM) with detection of photons, induced by the tunneling electrons. The high spatial resolution in STM and the local excitation allow for optical investigations on the nanometer-scale. READ MORE

4. Non-linear Optical Microscopy and Spectroscopy for Biomedical Studies
Abstract : This thesis is based on the application of non-linear optical microscopy and spectroscopy techniques within biomedical research. Non-linear optical microscopy gives the possibility of exciting fluorophores using near infrared light. READ MORE

5. Speleothems as environmental recorders : A study of Holocene speleothems and their growth environments in Sweden
Abstract : The main aim of this thesis was to contribute with detailed information of regional environmental change during the Holocene through studies of speleothems and their growth environments from two caves, Korallgrottan and Labyrintgrottan in northwestern Sweden, and a cellar vault in Uppsala. This was done through studies of stable isotopes and luminescence properties in the speleothems in combination with a detailed monitoring study in Korallgrottan. READ MORE
