  1. 1. Influence of FK506 on certain aspects of lymphocyte activation and lymphocyte-endothelial cell interactions in vitro

    Author : Håkan Karlsson; Avdelningen för medicinsk mikrobiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cytokine; adhesion molecule; endothelium; lymphocyte metabolism; interleukin 2 receptor; FK506; cyclosporin A; Mikrobiologi; bakteriologi; virologi; mykologi; Immunology; transplantation; serology; Microbiology; bacteriology; mycology; virology; Immunologi; serologi;

    Abstract : In the present thesis, the influence of the immunosuppressive drug FK506 on mitogen-induced changes in the expression of subunits a and ß of the IL-2 receptor by isolated human peripheral blood mononuclear cells has been studied. Up-regulation and release of the a-chain were potently depressed by FK506, even in the presence of exogenous IL-2. READ MORE

  2. 2. The role of S100A4 protein as a regulator of inflammation and bone metabolism in experimental arthritis

    Author : Li Bian; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : S100A4; arthritis; animal model; bone; inflammation;

    Abstract : S100A4 belongs to the family of calcium-binding S100 proteins and modulates cell proliferation, cytoskeletal rearrangement, cell motility, and angiogenesis. Increased levels of S100A4 expression correlate with high incidence of metastasis of cancers. READ MORE

  3. 3. Immune mechanisms in atherosclerosis : the role of T cells in murine models of atherosclerosis

    Author : Xinghua Zhou; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : atherosclerosis; inflammation; murine models; low density lipoprotein; lipoprotein oxidation; T lymphocyte; T-cell antigen receptors; hypercholesterolemia; autoantibodies; T-cell cytokines; immunization; cardiolipin;

    Abstract : Atherosclerosis is an inflammatory disease. Much interest has been focused on the immune responses in the pathogenesis of the disease. The role of T cells in the development of atherosclerosis was therefore investigated in murine models in this study. READ MORE

  4. 4. The role of epigenetics in multiple sclerosis development, progression and treatment

    Author : Ewoud Ewing; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : The overall aim of this thesis was to determine epigenetic changes in peripheral immune cells from Multiple Sclerosis (MS) patients. MS is a chronic inflammatory neurodegenerative disease, which initially presents itself during young adulthood. READ MORE

  5. 5. DNA adducts formed by ethene and butadiene : quantitative analysis in rats and humans

    Author : Chunyan Zhao; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : DNA adducts; 32P-postlabelling; cancer; genotoxicity; ethene; ethylene oxide; 1; 3-butadiene; epoxybutanediol;

    Abstract : The present study has focused on DNA adduct formation by two important industrial and environmental chemicals, ethene and butadiene, in rats and humans. Ethene and butadiene are among the 50 chemicals produced in greatest volume in the United States. READ MORE
