  1. 16. Expression profiling using manifold supports

    Author : Anette Hagberg; Joakim Lundeberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; mRNA; expression; minimal residual disease MRD ; chronic myeloid leukemia CML ; recombinant human erythropoietin r-HuEpo ; anemia; insulin dependent diabetes mellitus IDDM ; transplantation; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Medical Genetics; medicinsk genetik;

    Abstract : Analyses of mRNA provides a condensed view of gene structure and quantitative analysis can reveal the induction of physiological or pathological gene expression programs. This thesis describes a new method for mRNA isolation, followed by sensitive real time detection via polymerase chain reaction (PCR), in order to quantitate transcripts of interest. READ MORE

  2. 17. From behaviour to genes: anti-predator responses of brown trout (Salmo trutta) under winter conditions

    Author : Karl Filipsson; Eva Bergman; Ann Erlandsson; Martin Österling; Johan Watz; Stefán Óli Steingrímsson; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; burbot; climate change; cortisol; diel behaviour; gene expression; HPI axis; light; mRNA; piscivorous; poikilotherm; predator; salmonid; stream; stress; temperature; thermal; winter behaviour; Biology; Biologi;

    Abstract : Temperature has major effects on the performance of poikilotherms. In encounters with predators, low winter temperatures constrain predator detection and escape capabilities in prey fishes. READ MORE

  3. 18. Matrix metalloproteinase-26 (MMP-26) and Tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-4 (TIMP-4) in normal, hyperplastic, and malignant endometrium

    Author : Radovan Pilka; Lund Obstetrik och gynekologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; cancer; Obstetrics; gynaecology; Cytologi; onkologi; cancerology; secretion; Biology; Biologi; Cytology; oncology; implantation; human; endometrium; mRNA; MMP-26; TIMP-4; reproduktion; andrologi; gynekologi; Obstetrik; sexuality; reproduction; sexualitet; andrology;

    Abstract : The aim of the thesis was to study matrix metalloproteinase-26 (MMP-26) and tissue inhibitor of metalloproteinases-4 (TIMP-4) in normal, hyperplastic, and malignant endometrium. Most importantnly, both these molecules may be ivolved in the implantation process. Trophoblast tissue from human as well as mouse embryos produces pro-MMP-9. READ MORE

  4. 19. EF-Tu and RNase E : Essential and Functionally Connected Proteins

    Author : Disa L. Hammarlöf; Diarmaid Hughes; Måns Ehrenberg; Gerhart Wagner; Richard H Buckingham; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bacterial growth; translation; EF-Tu; RNase E; mRNA; RNA degradation; Molekylär cellbiologi; Molecular Cellbiology; Mikrobiologi; Microbiology;

    Abstract : The rate and accuracy of protein production is the main determinant of bacterial growth. Elongation Factor Tu (EF-Tu) provides the ribosome with aminoacylated tRNAs, and is central for its activity. In Salmonella enterica serovar Typhimurium, EF-Tu is encoded by the genes tufA and tufB. 5. 20. Nuclear Organization of Gene Expression in Adenovirus Infected Cells

    Author : Anders Aspegren; Lars Wieslander; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Genetics; Adenovirus; mRNA; transport; IGCs; E434kDa; E1B55kDa; NES; snRNP; Genetik; Clinical genetics; Klinisk genetik; Medical Genetics; medicinsk genetik;

    Abstract : Adenovirus infected cells provide a good model system for studying nuclear organization during RNA production and transport. This thesis is focused on the dynamic organization of splicing factors during the late phase of Adenovirus infection in HeLa cells, the nuclear localization of viral RNA, and the pathway used for viral RNA transport to the cytoplasm.
