1. Macromolecular Engineering by Surface-Initiated ATRP: : New Nanomaterials for Bioapplications
Abstract : The objective of this thesis is to investigate the synthesis of well-defined polymer nanohybrid materials bearing desirable functionality via surface-initiated atom transfer radical polymerization (SI-ATRP) for potential bioapplications.SI-ATRP is an excellent controlled radical polymerization (CRP) method for the synthesis of polymer nanohybrid by growing polymer brushes (chains) from an interface, which allows precise control over polymer composition, topology, and functionality. 2. Phase Segregation and Microstructural Changes in Starch - Protein Systems
Abstract : This thesis presents the study of the phase behavior of starch ? protein systems in relation to their microstructure and mechanical properties. To study the complexity of this multicomponent system, the main components of starch (amylopectin and amylose) were studied separately in presence of a protein (ß-lactoglobulin or patatin). READ MORE

3. Effect of hydration on thermodynamic, rheological and structural properties of mucin
Abstract : Mucus, an adherent hydrated layer covering the epithelium, is found in all internal tracts of the body and plays an important role in animal and human life. One of the essential functions of mucus is protection of tissues against dehydration. READ MORE

4. Aiway Mucins: experimental models for studies of secretions
Abstract : Mucins are essential components of the mucosal barrier. The complexity of the airway mucosal barrier is reflected in the lack of specific treatments to block mucin hypersecretion associated with several respiratory diseases such as chronic bronchitis, asthma and cystic fibrosis. 5. Thermodynamics of protein-DNA interactions
Abstract : This thesis treats the molecular recognition between DNA-binding proteins and DNA and the way these interactions are affected by the surrounding water solution and dissolved solutes. The work involves studies on the thermodynamics of sequence specific DNA-binding of the human glucocorticoid receptor DNA-binding domain and the nonsequence specific DNA- binding of Sso7d from the archaeon Sulfolobus solfataricus.
