  1. 1. Brash Ice and Level Ice Growth, Effects of Snow

    Author : Vasiola Zhaka; Andrzej Cwirzen; Kaj Riska; Robert Ettema; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; brash ice growth; level ice growth; snow effects; slush; snow ice; macroporosity; piece size distribution; Byggmaterial; Building Materials;

    Abstract : Brash ice occurs due to frequent navigation in ice-infested waters, typically along established navigation tracks regularly maintained by icebreakers and harbors. The accumulation and consolidation of brash ice between two ship passages are influenced by meteorological factors including the cumulative freezing air temperatures, and the mechanical processes such as ice-breaking due to ship passages. 2. 2. On Bone Regeneration in Porous Bioceramics - Studies in humans and rabbits using free form fabricated scaffolds

    Author : Johan Malmström; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : bone regeneration; hydroxyapatite; zirconia; macroporosity; microporosity; free form fabrication; focused ion beam; scanning electron microscopy; transmission electron microscopy; rabbit; human;

    Abstract : The objective of the present thesis was to evaluate the effect of material chemistry and macroand micro-porosity on bone regeneration in association with synthetic, porous ceramic materials. Ceramic scaffolds were designed and manufactured for experimental and human studies using free form fabrication (FFF), a technique which produces the object layer by layer using data from CAD files. 3. 3. Exploring expandable microspheres as a novel pore former in gel-cast macroporous alumina

    Author : Linnéa Andersson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Gel casting; macroporosity; Al2O3; near-net shape; expandable microspheres; layer-by-layer adsorption; polyelectrolyte; multilayer; colloids; X-ray micro-computed tomography; Lab CT; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : Expandable microspheres have been explored as sacrificial templates for the production of macroporous ceramics. Concentrated alumina powder suspensions that contain expandable microspheres have been consolidated by gel-casting. READ MORE

  4. 4. Shaping Macroporous Ceramics : templated synthesis, X-ray tomography and permeability

    Author : Linnéa Andersson; Lennart Bergström; Ludwig Gauckler; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alumina; ceramic; CO2 capture; colloidal processing; expandable microspheres; gel casting; layer-by-layer; macroporosity; near-net shape; non-destructive evaluation; permeability; porosity; sacrificial templating; X-ray computed tomography; Chemistry; Kemi; Materials Chemistry; materialkemi;

    Abstract : Macroporous ceramic materials have found widespread technological application ranging from particulate filters in diesel engines, tissue engineering scaffolds, and as support materials in carbon capture processes. This thesis demonstrates how the pore space of macroporous alumina can be manipulated, analysed in three-dimensions (3D) using visualisation techniques, and functionalised with a CO2-adsorbing material. 5. 5. Physical Properties of Acidic Calcium Phosphate Cements

    Author : Johanna Unosson; Håkan Engqvist; Cecilia Persson; Uwe Gbureck; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : The gold standard for bone replacement today, autologous bone, suffers from several disadvantages, such as the increased risk of infection due to the need for two surgeries. Degradable synthetic materials with properties similar to bone, such as calcium phosphate cements, are a promising alternative. READ MORE
