  1. 1. Shaping Macroporous Ceramics : templated synthesis, X-ray tomography and permeability

    Author : Linnéa Andersson; Lennart Bergström; Ludwig Gauckler; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Alumina; ceramic; CO2 capture; colloidal processing; expandable microspheres; gel casting; layer-by-layer; macroporosity; near-net shape; non-destructive evaluation; permeability; porosity; sacrificial templating; X-ray computed tomography; Chemistry; Kemi; Materials Chemistry; materialkemi;

    Abstract : Macroporous ceramic materials have found widespread technological application ranging from particulate filters in diesel engines, tissue engineering scaffolds, and as support materials in carbon capture processes. This thesis demonstrates how the pore space of macroporous alumina can be manipulated, analysed in three-dimensions (3D) using visualisation techniques, and functionalised with a CO2-adsorbing material. Abstract : The transition to bioeconomy will reduce our dependency on fossil fuels as well as contribute to a more sustainable society. Within this framework, exploitation and development of renewable substitutes to petroleum-based products provides feasible roadmap for the material design. READ MORE

  3. 3. Exploring expandable microspheres as a novel pore former in gel-cast macroporous alumina

    Author : Linnéa Andersson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Gel casting; macroporosity; Al2O3; near-net shape; expandable microspheres; layer-by-layer adsorption; polyelectrolyte; multilayer; colloids; X-ray micro-computed tomography; Lab CT; Organic chemistry; Organisk kemi;

    Abstract : Expandable microspheres have been explored as sacrificial templates for the production of macroporous ceramics. Concentrated alumina powder suspensions that contain expandable microspheres have been consolidated by gel-casting. READ MORE

  4. 4. In vitro and in vivo studies on biodegradable matrices for autotransplantation

    Author : Carl-Johan Gustafson; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []

    Abstract : Tissue engineering (TE), one of the most rapidly growing fields of life science, is an interdisciplinary area in which technical, biological and medical expertise co-fertilize on another with the ultimate aim of restoring, maintaining or improving tissues and/or organs. This purpose links TE closely to research concerning reconstructive plastic surgery. READ MORE

  5. 5. Modified molecular sieve macrostructures

    Author : Valeri Naydenov; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Chemical Technology; Kemisk teknologi;

    Abstract : The preparation of molecular sieve based catalysts in appropriate macroforms suitable for practical utilization is of great technological importance. This thesis is dedicated to the preparation of metal containing molecular sieve macrostructures (modified macrostructures). READ MORE
