  1. 11. Ion escape from Mars

    Author : Qi Zhang; Mats Holmström; Xiao-Dong Wang; Shahab Fatemi; Hans Nilsson; David Andrews; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : When the solar wind reaches the Mars obstacle, mass loading by planetary ions slows down the solar wind and raises the bow shock. The Martian atmosphere is undergoing the a scavenging by the solar wind without the protection of a global magnetic field. Atmospheric escape is an important process for the evolution of the Martian climate. READ MORE

  2. 12. Magnetotransport Studies of Mn Ion-Implanted Nanowires

    Author : Waldomiro Paschoal; Linnaeus University; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; hopping conduction; ferromagnetism; ion-implantation; Nanowire; GaMnAs; magnetoresistance; Fysicumarkivet A:2014:Paschoal;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on the magnetotransport properties of highly Mn-doped crystalline GaAs nanowires. The GaAs nanowires were first grown by metal-organic vapor phase epitaxy from gold seed particles, and subsequently implanted with Mn ions under varying conditions, e.g., ion fluence and acceleration voltage. 3. 13. Measurement and Analysis of Intracardiac Blood Flow and Vortex Ring Formation

    Author : Johannes Töger; Lund Klinisk fysiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; blood flow; dynamical systems; magnetic resonance imaging; heart failure; vortex ring formation;

    Abstract : Increased understanding of the pumping mechanics of the heart are of great importance to develop diagnostics, treatment and prognostics for cardiovascular diseases. Blood flow in the heart is connected to its anatomy and function, and may therefore be a sensitive marker of cardiac health and disease. READ MORE

  4. 14. Phase separation in duplex stainless steel: characterization and mitigation

    Author : Jianling Liu; Peter Hedström; Joakim Odqvist; Wangzhong Mu; Aniruddha Biswas; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; duplex stainless steel; 475 °C embrittlement; phase separation; small-angle neutron scattering; mechanical properties; alloying elements; cooling rate; magnetic field; Materials Science and Engineering; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : Duplex stainless steel (DSS) is a category of widely used stainlesssteel, which are strategically important in a variety of applications such asin the food industry, chemical engineering plants and nuclear power plants,due to their attractive combination of mechanical properties and corrosionresistance. However, these steel grades are sensitive to the so-called ‘475°Cembrittlement’, because of a phase separation (PS) phenomenon in theferrite phase, which decomposes into Fe-rich ferrite (α) and Cr-rich ferrite(α'), when exposed to temperatures within the miscibility gap. 5. 15. Setting the Holocene clock using varved lake sediments in Sweden

    Author : Lovisa Zillén; Kvartärgeologi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; climate change; Physical geography; tephrochronology; palaeomagnetic secular variations; radiocarbon time-scale; Holocene varved lake sediments; varve chronology; geomorphology; pedology; cartography; climatology; Fysisk geografi; geomorfologi; marklära; kartografi; klimatologi;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to study annually laminated (varved) Holocene lake sediment in Sweden, their formation and their potential as chronological and palaeoecological archives. Five lakes with continuous Holocene varved lake sediment sequences in northern (Västerbotten) and west central Sweden (Värmland) were investigated. READ MORE
