  1. 21. Twisted Loops and Models for Form-factors and the Muon g-2

    Author : Johan Relefors; Teoretisk partikelfysik - Geonomgår omorganisation; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Chiral perturbation theory; Twisted boundary conditions; Phenomenological models; Muon g-2; Fysicumarkivet A:2016:Relefors;

    Abstract : In this thesis we use effective field thory methods and models for low energy QCD in two different contexts. One is direct calculation of contributions to the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, muon g-2. The other is estimates of systematic sources of uncertainty in lattice QCD simulations. The work is presented in five papers. READ MORE

  2. 22. Carbon-based magnetic nanomaterials

    Author : Valeria Zagaynova; Tatiana Makarova; Mauro Ricco; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; carbon nanotube; fullerene; single molecular magnet; Mn12; graphite fluoride; nanoporous carbon; molecular magnetism; magnetic properties; SQUID magnetometry; x-ray diffraction; Raman spectroscopy; Materials Science; materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : Magnetism of carbon-based materials is a challenging area for both fundamental research and possible applications. We present studies of low-dimensional carbon-based magnetic systems (fullerene-diluted molecular magnets, carbon nanotubes, graphite fluoride, and nanoporous carbon) by means of SQUID magnetometer, X-ray diffraction and vibrational spectroscopy, the latter techniques used as complementary instruments to find a correlation between the magnetic behaviour and the structure of the samples. 3. 23. Generation of magnetic fields in plasmas

    Author : Nitin Shukla; Gert Brodin; Dusan Jovanovic; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Relativistic and non-relativistic plasma outflows are quite ubiquitous in astrophysical scenarios, as well as in laboratory plasmas. The propagation of relativistic and non- relativistic charged particle beams in background plasmas provides return currents in the opposite direction and interactions between the currents then drive several plasma instabilities involving the longitudinal (electrostatic instabilities) and trans- verse (electromagnetic instability) modes. 4. 24. Single-Electron Tunneling Spectroscopy in Magnetic Nanoparticles and Molecular Magnets

    Author : Lukasz Michalak; Fasta tillståndets fysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; master equation; magnetic nanoparticles; spin accumulation; molecular magnets; TMR; tunneling magnetoresistance; F-SET; ferromagnetic single-electron transistor; single-electron tunneling; nanomagnetism; spintronics; Coulomb blockade;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with single-electron tunneling in transistor-like devices in which the central electrode is either a metal nanoparticle (possibly ferromagnetic) or a molecular magnet. The investigated systems split into two different categories, depending on the size of the central island. READ MORE

  5. 25. Quantum scattering and interaction in graphene structures

    Abstract : Since its isolation in 2004, that resulted in the Nobel Prize award in 2010, graphene has been the object of an intense interest, due to its novel physics and possible applications in electronic devices. Graphene has many properties that differ it from usual semiconductors, for example its low-energy electrons behave like massless particles. READ MORE
