1. Magnetic Heterostructures : The Effect of Compositional Modulation on Magnetic Properties
Abstract : The effect of compositional modulation on structural and magnetic properties of magnetic heterostructures was explored. The systems under focus were ferromagnetic superlattices Fe81Ni19/Co, metal-insulator multilayers Al2O3/Ni81Fe19, nanoparticles and artificial multilayered pillars. READ MORE

2. Modeling and Verification of Ultra-Fast Electro-Mechanical Actuators for HVDC Breakers
Abstract : The continuously increasing demand for clean renewable energy has rekindled interest in multi-terminal high voltage direct current (HVDC) grids. Although such grids have several advantages and a great potential, their materialization has been thwarted due to the absence of HVDC breakers. READ MORE

3. Tunable Magnetic Properties of Transition Metal Compounds
Abstract : The magnetic properties of transition metal compounds have been studied using SQUID-magnetometry, magnetic force microscopy and Lorentz transmission electron microscopy. New magnetic materials have been found and their magnetic properties have been determined. How the magnetic properties of a material can be changed through e.g. READ MORE

4. Local magnetic susceptometry : Visualizing functional properties of novel materials
Abstract : One of the rapidly growing instrumentation technologies of late has been Surface Probe Microscopy. Since the award of the Nobel Prize in 1986, this form of instrumentation has expanded into various fascinating forms and is successfully enabling investigations at a nano-scale. READ MORE

5. Tailored Properties of Ferromagnetic Thin Films
Abstract : Magnetic thin films and patterned nanostructures have been studied with respect to their magnetic properties using SQUID-magnetometry, magnetic force microscopy, electrical measurements, and micromagnetic calculations. Properties of vortex domain walls, trapped in Permalloy nanowires with artificial constrictions, were investigated experimentally and by numerical calculations. READ MORE
