1. Modulating magnetic interactions : in metamaterials and amorphous alloys
Abstract : This thesis is focused on exploring and modulating magnetic interactions in metamaterials and amorphous alloys along one-, two-, and three-dimensions. First, thin films of alternating Fe and MgO are adapted to modulate magnetic interactions along one dimension. READ MORE

2. Uncovering Magnetic Order in Nanostructured Disordered Materials : A Study of Amorphous Magnetic Layered Structures
Abstract : The scope of this thesis is the study of the interplay between structure and magnetism in amorphous materials. The investigations focus on the growth of amorphous layers and the study of the influence of structural disorder and reduced physical extension on the magnetic properties of thin films and multilayers. 3. Iron Losses in Electrical Machines - Influence of Material Properties, Manufacturing Processes, and Inverter Operation
Abstract : As the major electricity consumer, electrical machines play a key role for global energy savings. Machine manufacturers put considerable efforts into the development of more efficient electrical machines for loss reduction and higher power density achievements. READ MORE

4. The Effect of Long Range Order on Elastic Properties of Alloys
Abstract : Ab initio alloy theory, formulated within the exact muffin-tin orbitals method in combination with the coherent-potential approximation, is used to determine the effect of long range order on the elastic properties. The lattice parameters and single-crystal elastic constants of Cu3Au are calculated for different partially ordered structures ranging from the fully ordered L12 to the random face centered cubic lattice. 5. Strategies for finding new magnetic materials
Abstract : Magnetic materials are indispensable in modern day society. The vast majority of energy generation and conversion involves some kind of magnetic material, and several other applications such as data storage also use them. READ MORE
