  1. 6. Magnetism of Semiconductors and Metallic Multilayers

    Author : Victor Stanciu; Per Nordblad; Peter Svedlindh; Poul Erik Lindelof; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Materials science; Magnetic order; Curie temperature; magnetic anisotropy; diluted magnetic III-V semiconductors; metallic magnetic multilayers; interlayer exchange coupling; Materialvetenskap; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : Magnetic properties of diluted magnetic semiconductors and magnetic metallic multilayers are investigated by SQUID magnetometry. By doping GaAs with magnetic Mn2+ ions under well defined growth conditions, one obtains a diluted magnetic semiconductor, (Ga,Mn)As, in which the randomly-distributed magnetic ions act as acceptor centers. 2. 7. Tailored Properties of Ferromagnetic Thin Films

    Author : Peter Warnicke; Peter Svedlindh; Peter Grünberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; micromagnetics; domain wall; vortex; pinning potential; nanowire; spin dynamics; spin transfer torque; magnetic anisotropy; MFM; Permalloy; PMA; magnetic multilayer; Curie temperature; DMS; GaMnAs; magnetic bioseparation; Engineering physics; Teknisk fysik;

    Abstract : Magnetic thin films and patterned nanostructures have been studied with respect to their magnetic properties using SQUID-magnetometry, magnetic force microscopy, electrical measurements, and micromagnetic calculations. Properties of vortex domain walls, trapped in Permalloy nanowires with artificial constrictions, were investigated experimentally and by numerical calculations. READ MORE

  3. 8. Magnetic solotronics near the surface of a semiconductor and a topological insulator

    Author : Mohammad Reza Mahani; C.M. Canali; Biplab Sanyal; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Magnetic solotronics; Transition metal dopants; Dilute magnetism in semiconductors and topological insulators; Atomistic tight-binding models; DFT; Spin dynamics; Magnetic anisotropy; Scanning tunneling microscope.; Condensed Matter Physics; Kondenserade materians fysik;

    Abstract : Technology where a solitary dopant acts as the active component of an opto-electronic device is an emerging  field known as solotronics, and bears the promise to revolutionize the way in which information is stored, processed and transmitted. Magnetic doped semiconductors and in particular (Ga, Mn)As, the archetype of dilute magnetic semiconductors, and topological insulators (TIs), a new phase of quantum matter with unconventional characteristics, are two classes of quantum materials that have the potential to advance spin-electronics technology. 4. 9. Studies of magnetic multi-core nanoparticles for biomedical applications

    Author : Vincent Schaller; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metropolis algorithm; magnetic bioseparation; Monte Carlo method; Brownian dynamics; magnetic immunoassays; Magnetic multi-core nanoparticles; digital microfluidics; electrowetting-on-dielectric EWOD ;

    Abstract : In recent years, there has been growing interest in using magnetic multi-core nanoparticles in biomedical applications, and particularly in bioseparation and biosensing. In this thesis, two computer simulation techniques have been implemented to study the magnetic response of these particles, and a microfluidic platform has been fabricated to manipulate bio-functionalized magnetic particles in suspension for immunoassays.
