1. Modulating magnetic interactions : in metamaterials and amorphous alloys
Abstract : This thesis is focused on exploring and modulating magnetic interactions in metamaterials and amorphous alloys along one-, two-, and three-dimensions. First, thin films of alternating Fe and MgO are adapted to modulate magnetic interactions along one dimension. READ MORE

2. Materials for Magnetic Recording Applications
Abstract : In the first part of this work, the influence of hydrogen on the structural and magnetic properties of Fe/V(001) superlattices was studied. The local structure of the vanadium-hydride layers was determined by extended x-ray absorption fine structure (EXAFS) measurements. READ MORE

3. Magnetism of Semiconductors and Metallic Multilayers
Abstract : Magnetic properties of diluted magnetic semiconductors and magnetic metallic multilayers are investigated by SQUID magnetometry. By doping GaAs with magnetic Mn2+ ions under well defined growth conditions, one obtains a diluted magnetic semiconductor, (Ga,Mn)As, in which the randomly-distributed magnetic ions act as acceptor centers. 4. Mössbauer spectroscopy on selectred magnetic compounds
Abstract : The applications of magnetic materials are related to their magnetic and crystal structure as well as electronic properties. In this thesis, mainly experimental methods have been focussed on novel materials and bulk materials. READ MORE

5. Critical Phenomena and Exchange Coupling in Magnetic Heterostructures
Abstract : The continuous phase transition in thin magnetic films and superlattices has been studied using the magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) and polarized neutron scattering (PNR). It has been shown that the critical behavior of amorphous thin films belonging to the 2D XY universality class can be described within the same theory as crystalline sample. READ MORE
