16. Magnetotransport and Persistent Currents in Ballistic Microstructures
Abstract : In this Thesis we discuss properties of different ballistic microstructures in the presence of a magnetic field. Three topics have been studied: (i) the magnetoconductance of a three-dimensional (3D) microwire, (ii) magnetotransport and persistent currents in a two-dimensional so called "quantum dot" in a gated AlGaAs heterostructure, and (iii) some magnetotransport properties of a quasi one-dimensional conducting channel in the same kind of material. 17. Electron transport, interaction and spin in graphene and graphene nanoribbons
Abstract : Since the isolation of graphene in 2004, this novel material has become the major object of modern condensed matter physics. Despite of enormous research activity in this field, there are still a number of fundamental phenomena that remain unexplained and challenge researchers for further investigations. READ MORE

18. Trends in Magnetism : From Strong Correlations to “-onics” Technology
Abstract : Despite of enormous progress in experimental nanophysics theoretical studies of low-dimensional electron systems still remains a challenging task. Indeed, most of the structures are strongly correlated, so that an effective perturbative treatment is impossible due to the lack of a small parameter. READ MORE

19. Electronic Properties of Nanotubes
Abstract : This thesis deals with various aspects of the electronic properties of carbon nanotubes and of generic nanotubes in magnetic fields. Carbon nanotubes are highly symmetric objects on the nanometer scale which show an interesting interplay of their geometry with electronic properties. READ MORE

20. Non-local behaviour from local interactions
Abstract : With the discovery of the quantum Hall effect more than thirty years ago, a whole new field emerged—that of topological quantum matter. This field is now a very mature one, and many different aspects are covered in the literature. READ MORE
