  1. 16. The role of interfaces in oxide thin films

    Author : Tomas Liljenfors; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; thin film; LSMO; EELS; grain boundary; BSTO; interfaces; LCMO; manganites; BTO; bicrystal; TEM; HRTEM; microstructure;

    Abstract : The role of interfaces in oxide thin films has been investigated from a microstructural point of view. Thin films of manganites and titanates have been investigated by transmission electron microscopy (TEM). READ MORE

  2. 17. Synthesis and Characterization of Ternary Carbide Thin Films

    Author : Ola Wilhelmsson; Ulf Jansson; Michael Stueber; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Chemistry; Thin film; dc magnetron sputtering; tribology; carbide; PVD; MAX-phase; DFT; solid solution; Kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis reports on synthesis, microstructure and properties of binary and ternary carbide thin films deposited by dc magnetron sputtering. These materials are interesting since they exhibit a wide range of useful properties, such as high hardness, resistance to wear and oxidation, and high electrical conductivity. READ MORE

  3. 18. Magnetism and Structure of Thin 3d Transition Metal Films : XMCD and EXAFS using Polarized Soft X-Rays

    Author : Anders Hahlin; Dimitri Arvanitis; Olof Karis; Claus Schneider; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; thin film; xmcd; exafs; anisotropy; coherence; circular polarization; magnetism; Fe; Co; Ag; Fysik; Physics; Fysik; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : In this Thesis the magnetic and structural properties of thin epitaxial Fe, Co, and Ni films are discussed. Some of the in-situ prepared samples were used to characterize the degree of circular polarization of the newly installed beamline D1011 at MAX-lab. READ MORE

  4. 19. Phase Formation of Nanolaminated Transition Metal Carbide Thin Films

    Author : Chung-Chuan Lai; Johanna Rosén; Per Eklund; Lars Hultman; Miladin Radovic; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Research on inherently nanolaminated transition metal carbides is inspired by their unique properties combining metals and ceramics, such as higher damage tolerance, better machinability and lower brittleness compared to the binary counterparts, yet retaining the metallic conductivity. The interesting properties are related to their laminated structure, composed of transition-metalcarbide layers interleaved by non-transition-metal (carbide) layers. READ MORE

  5. 20. Synthesis and characterization of Ga-containing MAX phase thin films

    Author : Andrejs Petruhins; Johanna Rosén; Per O A Persson; Erik Lewin; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : The study of magnetic Mn+1AXn (MAX) phases (n = 1 − 3, M – a transition metal, A – an A group element, X – C or N) is a recently established research area, fuelled by theoretical predictions and first confirmed experimentally through alloying of Mn into the well-known Cr2AlC and Cr2GeC. Theoretical phase stability investigations suggested a new magnetic MAX phase, Mn2GaC, containing Ga which is liquid close to room temperature. READ MORE
