  1. 1. Studies of magnetic multi-core nanoparticles for biomedical applications

    Author : Vincent Schaller; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Metropolis algorithm; magnetic bioseparation; Monte Carlo method; Brownian dynamics; magnetic immunoassays; Magnetic multi-core nanoparticles; digital microfluidics; electrowetting-on-dielectric EWOD ;

    Abstract : In recent years, there has been growing interest in using magnetic multi-core nanoparticles in biomedical applications, and particularly in bioseparation and biosensing. In this thesis, two computer simulation techniques have been implemented to study the magnetic response of these particles, and a microfluidic platform has been fabricated to manipulate bio-functionalized magnetic particles in suspension for immunoassays. 2. 2. Magnetic Nanoparticle Based Biosensors for Pathogen Detection and Cancer Diagnostics

    Author : Bo Tian; Mattias Strömberg; Peter Svedlindh; Hakho Lee; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Magnetic biosensors; magnetic nanoparticles; homogeneous assays; volumetric sensing; Engineering Science with specialization in Solid State Physics; Teknisk fysik med inriktning mot fasta tillståndets fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis describes several magnetic nanoparticle (MNP)-based biosensing strategies which take advantage of different magnetic sensors, molecular tools and nanotechnologies. Proposed biosensors can be classified into three groups, i.e., immunoassay-based, molecular amplification-based, and nanoparticle assembly-based. READ MORE

  3. 3. Magnetic nanostructured materials for advanced bio-applications

    Author : Andrea Fornara; Mamoun Muhammed; Josep Nogués; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Materials chemistry; Materialkemi;

    Abstract : In the recent years, nanostructured magnetic materials and their use in biomedical and biotechnological applications have received a lot of attention. In this thesis, we developed tailored magnetic nanoparticles for advanced bio-applications, such as direct detection of antibodies in biological samples and stimuli responsive drug delivery system. 4. 4. Protein production and purification in structural genomics

    Author : Martin Hammarström; Per-Åke Nygren; Torleif Härd; Helena Berglund; Herman van Tilbeurgh; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Recombinational cloning; Escherichia coli; gene expression; fusion proteins; solubility; circular dichroism; nuclear magnetic resonance; Structural biochemistry; Strukturbiokemi;

    Abstract : The number of gene products available for structural and functional study is increasing at an unprecedented rate as a result of the successful whole genome sequencing projects. Systematic structure determination of proteins on a genomic scale, called structural genomics, can significantly contribute to the field of protein science and to functional annotation of newly identified genes. Abstract : Materials that provide real-time control of the fundamental properties of light at visible and near-infrared frequencies enable the essential components for future optical devices. Metal nanostructures that couple electromagnetic (EM) radiation on a sub-wavelength length scale to free electrons, forming propagating or localized surface plasmons, provide many exciting functionalities due to their ability to manipulate light via the local EM field shaping and enhancement.
