  1. 11. Pulsed Electric Field Food Treatment and Low Frequency Bioelectromagnetics

    Author : Martin Lindgren; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; extremely low frequency; non-thermal microbial inactivation; electromagnetic fields; biological effects; treatment chambers; electric field distribution; magnetic fields; pulsed electric fields;

    Abstract : This thesis is divided in two parts, both of which address the interaction between biological cells (especially cell membranes) and electromagnetic fields. The first part deals with the application of intense pulsed electric fields (PEF) in foods. It is intended to be a non-thermal method to inactivate microorganisms. READ MORE

  2. 12. Magnetic fields and chemical maps of Ap stars from four Stokes parameter observations

    Author : Naum Rusomarov; Oleg Kochukhov; Nikolai Piskunov; Werner Weiss; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; chemically peculiar stars; magnetic fields; spectropolarimetry; Doppler imaging; stellar atmospheres; Astronomy with specialization in Astrophysics; Astronomi med intiktning mot astrofysik; Astronomy; Astronomi;

    Abstract : Our knowledge of stellar magnetic fields relies almost entirely on circular polarization observations, which has historically limited our understanding of the stellar magnetic field topologies. Recently, it has become possible to obtain phase-resolved high-resolution spectropolarimetric observations in all four Stokes parameters for early-type magnetic stars. READ MORE

  3. 13. Carbon-based magnetic nanomaterials

    Author : Valeria Zagaynova; Tatiana Makarova; Mauro Ricco; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; carbon nanotube; fullerene; single molecular magnet; Mn12; graphite fluoride; nanoporous carbon; molecular magnetism; magnetic properties; SQUID magnetometry; x-ray diffraction; Raman spectroscopy; Materials Science; materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : Magnetism of carbon-based materials is a challenging area for both fundamental research and possible applications. We present studies of low-dimensional carbon-based magnetic systems (fullerene-diluted molecular magnets, carbon nanotubes, graphite fluoride, and nanoporous carbon) by means of SQUID magnetometer, X-ray diffraction and vibrational spectroscopy, the latter techniques used as complementary instruments to find a correlation between the magnetic behaviour and the structure of the samples. 4. 14. Tunable Magnetic Properties of Transition Metal Compounds

    Author : Solveig Felton; Per Nordblad; Peter Svedlindh; John Chapman; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Magnetic properties; Transition metal compounds; Magnetic structure; Domain structure; SQUID-magnetometry; MFM; Magnetism; Magnetism;

    Abstract : The magnetic properties of transition metal compounds have been studied using SQUID-magnetometry, magnetic force microscopy and Lorentz transmission electron microscopy. New magnetic materials have been found and their magnetic properties have been determined. How the magnetic properties of a material can be changed through e.g. READ MORE

  5. 15. Engineering Magnetic Droplets in Nanocontact Spin-Torque Nano-Oscillators

    Author : Sheng Jiang; Johan Åkerman; Dario Arena; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Magnetic Droplet; Magnetic Tunnel Junction; Perpendicular Magnetic Anisotropy; Spin-torque Nano-Oscillators; Spin-Valve.; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Spin-torque nano-oscillators (STNOs) are nanoscale spintronic devices capable of generating highly tunable broadband microwave signals. In this thesis, I study nanocontact (NC)-based STNOs using strong perpendicular magnetic anisotropy(PMA) free layers, where a novel magnetic soliton—a magnetic droplet—exists. READ MORE
