  1. 1. Magnetic deflagration and detonation in crystals of nanomagnets

    Author : Oleksii Iukhymenko; Claude Dion; Javier Tejada; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nanomagnets; magnetic deflagration; front instability; Zeeman energy; magnetic instability; magnetic detonation; weak detonation; Physics Of Matter; materiefysik;

    Abstract : In this thesis we cover the dynamics of the macro magnetic transformations (spin avalanches) in crystals of molecular nanomagnets, also known as magnetic deflagration and detonation.Taking a single-molecule Hamiltonian, we calculate the dependence of Zeeman energy and the activation energy as a function of an external magnetic field at different angles relative to the easy axis of the crystal. 2. 2. Resonant magnetic perturbation effect on the tearing mode dynamics : Novel measurements and modeling of magnetic fluctuation induced momentum transport in the reversed-field pinch

    Author : Richard Fridström; Per Brunsell; Lorenzo Frassinetti; Tommaso Bolzonella; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; RFP; reversed-field pinch; tokamak; tearing mode; RMP; fusion; plasma; resonant magnetic perturbation; stochastic; magnetic; field; viscosity; mode; locking; Electrical Engineering; Elektro- och systemteknik;

    Abstract : The tearing mode (TM) is a resistive instability that can arise in magnetically confined plasmas. The TM can be driven unstable by the gradient of the plasma current. When the mode grows it destroys the magnetic field symmetry and reconnects the magnetic field in the form of a so-called magnetic island. READ MORE

  3. 3. Clinical and arthroscopic assessment of wrist ligament injuries and instability

    Author : Jonny K Andersson; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; wrist; wrist arthroscopy; carpal ligaments; scapholunate ligament; lunotriquetral ligament; triangular fibrocartilage complex; distal radio-ulnar joint; instability; magnetic resonance imaging; forearm rotation torque; children; adolescents;

    Abstract : Wrist ligament injuries are common after trauma, especially when concomitant dislocated radius fractures are present. The diagnostics of scapholunate (SL), lunotriquetral (LT) and triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) injuries are challenging and most often dependent on magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) examination or invasive arthroscopy. 4. 4. Radar Signatures of Auroral Plasma Instability

    Author : Nicola Schlatter; Nickolay Ivchenko; Anja Stromme; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Ionosphere; Particle Precipitation; Instability; Plasma Turbulence; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Incoherent scatter radars are powerful ground based instruments for ionospheric measurements. By analysis of the Doppler shifted backscatter spectrum, containing the signature of electrostatic plasma waves, plasma bulk properties are estimated. READ MORE

  5. 5. Engineering Magnetic Droplets in Nanocontact Spin-Torque Nano-Oscillators

    Author : Sheng Jiang; Johan Åkerman; Dario Arena; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Magnetic Droplet; Magnetic Tunnel Junction; Perpendicular Magnetic Anisotropy; Spin-torque Nano-Oscillators; Spin-Valve.; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : Spin-torque nano-oscillators (STNOs) are nanoscale spintronic devices capable of generating highly tunable broadband microwave signals. In this thesis, I study nanocontact (NC)-based STNOs using strong perpendicular magnetic anisotropy(PMA) free layers, where a novel magnetic soliton—a magnetic droplet—exists. READ MORE
