  1. 1. Critical Phenomena and Exchange Coupling in Magnetic Heterostructures

    Author : Martina Ahlberg; Gabriella Andersson; Björgvin Hjörvarsson; Steve Bramwell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phase transitions; critical behavior; 2D XY model; MOKE; magnetic thin films and superlattices; amorphous multilayers; magnetic proximity effects; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : The continuous phase transition in thin magnetic films and superlattices has been studied using the magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) and polarized neutron scattering (PNR).  It has been shown that the critical behavior of amorphous thin films belonging to the 2D XY universality class can be described within the same theory as crystalline sample. 2. 2. Local magnetic susceptometry : Visualizing functional properties of novel materials

    Author : Ziyan Gu; K. V. Rao; Robert D. Shull; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; Materials science; Materialvetenskap; Materials science; Teknisk materialvetenskap;

    Abstract : One of the rapidly growing instrumentation technologies of late has been Surface Probe Microscopy. Since the award of the Nobel Prize in 1986, this form of instrumentation has expanded into various fascinating forms and is successfully enabling investigations at a nano-scale. READ MORE

  4. 4. Magnetic frustration and low-dimensional magnetism : in transition metal fluorophosphates and square-lattice intermetallic compounds

    Author : Stefanie Siebeneichler; Anja-Verena Mudring; Ulrich Häussermann; Sven Lidin; Kenneth R. Poeppelmeier; Stockholms universitet; []

    Abstract : Solids can display a variety of vastly different magnetic properties. Besides the generally well known ferromagnets, antiferromagnets with their antiparallel arrangements of magnetic moments can exhibit a wide range of complex magnetic behavior such as magnetic frustration or low-dimensional antiferromagnetism. 5. 5. Dynamics in magnetic metamaterials

    Author : Agnė Čiučiulkaitė; Vassilios Kapaklis; Gabriella Andersson; Björgvin Hjörvarsson; Will Branford; Uppsala universitet; []

    Abstract : Metamaterials are artificially created structures with properties that are not found in nature. They can be tailored to achieve desired response to external excitations such as external electric and magnetic fields, as well as to enhance materials’ optical or magnetic activity. READ MORE
