  1. 1. Critical Phenomena and Exchange Coupling in Magnetic Heterostructures

    Author : Martina Ahlberg; Gabriella Andersson; Björgvin Hjörvarsson; Steve Bramwell; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; phase transitions; critical behavior; 2D XY model; MOKE; magnetic thin films and superlattices; amorphous multilayers; magnetic proximity effects; Physics with spec. in Atomic; Molecular and Condensed Matter Physics; Fysik med inriktning mot atom- molekyl- och kondenserande materiens fysik;

    Abstract : The continuous phase transition in thin magnetic films and superlattices has been studied using the magneto-optical Kerr effect (MOKE) and polarized neutron scattering (PNR).  It has been shown that the critical behavior of amorphous thin films belonging to the 2D XY universality class can be described within the same theory as crystalline sample. 2. 2. Quality assurance for magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) in radiotherapy

    Author : Mary Adjeiwaah; Tufve Nyholm; Rob HN Tijssen; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Magnetic resonance imaging; Radiotherapy; geometric distortions; patient-induced susceptibilities MR-only; radiofysik; radiation physics;

    Abstract : Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) utilizes the magnetic properties of tissues to generate image-forming signals. MRI has exquisite soft-tissue contrast and since tumors are mainly soft-tissues, it offers improved delineation of the target volume and nearby organs at risk. READ MORE

  3. 3. Effects of surface plasmons in subwavelength metallic structures

    Author : Srinivasan Iyer; Ari T. Friberg; N. Asger Mortensen; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; suface plasmons; extraordinary transmission; metamaterials; shnets; split-ring resonators; plasmon-induced EIT; optical antennas; plasmonics;

    Abstract : The study of optical phenomena related to the strong electromagnetic response of noble metals (silver (Ag) and gold (Au) being most popular) over the last couple of decades has led to the emergence of a fast growing research area called plasmonics named after 'surface plasmons' which are electron density waves that propagate along the interface of a metal and a dielectric medium. Surface plasmons are formed by the coupling of light to the electrons on the metal surface subject to the fulfillment of certain physical conditions and they are bound to the metal surface. 4. 4. Resonant vortex-pair dynamics and magnetocalorics in magnetic nanostructures

    Author : Erik Holmgren; Vladislav Korenivski; Gisela Schütz; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Fysik;

    Abstract : This thesis investigates the dynamics of spin vortex pairs in nanopillars andthermal effects in magnetic multilayers with RKKY-like indirect exchange.Spin vortices are being investigated as storage elements for memory applicationsas well as for GHz oscillators and signal processing devices. 5. 5. Modelling the transient response of windings, laminated steel coresand electromagnetic power devices by means of lumped circuits : With special reference to windings with a coaxial insulation system

    Author : Pär Holmberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Physics; Transient response; frequency response; electromagnetic transient analysis; circuit modeling; eddy currents; skin effect; windings; coils; magnetic cores; cables; electric machines; rotating electric machines; transformers; Fysik; Physics; Fysik; Electricity; Esp The Study Of Transients and Discharges; elektricitetslära; ssk studiet av transienter och urladdning;

    Abstract : Electromagnetic transients impinging on electromagnetic power devices - such as electric machines, transformers and reactors - can stress the design severely. Thus the magnitudes of the transients are often decisive for the design of the devices. Further, the operation of a device can be transient in itself. READ MORE
