1. Biomechanical and neural aspects of eccentric and concentric muscle performance in stroke subjects : Implications for resistance training
Abstract : Muscle weakness is one of the major causes of post-stroke disability. Stroke rehabilitation programs now often incorporate the same type of resistance training that is used for healthy subjects; however, the training effects induced from these training strategies are often limited for stroke patients. 2. SmCo for polymer bonded magnets : Corrosion, silanization, rheological, mechanical and magnetic properties
Abstract : This thesis presents the study of organofunctional alkoxysilane coatings to prevent high temperature oxidation of Sm-Co powders. Sm-Co are important permanent magnetic alloys, owing to their high Curie temperature and large values of magnetocrystalline anisotropy. READ MORE

3. Nonlinear dynamics of strongly-bound magnetic vortex pairs
Abstract : This work is a study of nonlinear phenomena in vertically stacked pairs of magnetic vortices. New dynamic regimes are uncovered with a decrease in the inter-vortex separation to below the lateral vortex-core size. READ MORE

4. Acute and early chronic responses to resistance exercise using flywheel or weights
Abstract : Resistance exercise using weights typically offers constant external load during coupled shortening (concentric) and lengthening (eccentric) muscle actions in sets of consecutive repetitions until failure. However, the constant external load and the inherent capability of skeletal muscle to produce greater force in the eccentric compared with the concentric action, would infer that most actions are executed with incomplete motor unit involvement. 5. Positron Emission Tomography and Magnetic Resonance Techniques in Diabetes
Abstract : In order to further advance the field of diabetes research there is a great need for establishing validated non-invasive quantitative techniques to study the pancreas and other tissues of importance for blood glucose regulation. The general aim of this thesis was to explore magnetic resonance techniques and positron emission tomography as such tools. READ MORE
