1. Bismuth iron garnet films for magneto-optical photonic crystals
Abstract : The thesis explores preparation and properties of bismuthiron garnet (BIG) films and the incorporation of BIG films intoone-dimensional magneto-optical photonic crystals (MOPCs). Films were prepared by pulsed laser deposition. READ MORE

2. Theoretical Investigation on Propagation and Coupling of Nonreciprocal Electromagnetic Surface Waves
Abstract : This thesis aims at revealing the fundamental guiding and coupling properties of nonreciprocal electromagnetic surface waves on magneto-optical or gyromagnetic media and designing novel applications based on the properties. We introduce the background in the first chapter. READ MORE

4. Constructing and Commissioning HELIOS – A High Harmonic Generation Source for Pump-Probe Measurements with sub 50 fs Temporal Resolution : The Development of Experimental Equipment for Extreme Ultraviolet Spectroscopy
Abstract : This thesis presents HELIOS, an in-house laboratory for time-resolved pump-probe spectroscopy with extreme-ultraviolet (XUV) probe radiation. A wide span of pump wavelengths can be generated using commercial laser equipment while XUV probe radiation is generated via a high harmonic generation process in a noble gas delivering probe photons with energies between 20 eV and 72 eV. 5. Magneto-optical studies of dilute nitrides and II-VI diluted magnetic semiconductor quantum structures
Abstract : This thesis work aims at a better understanding of magneto-optical properties of dilute nitrides and II-VI diluted magnetic semiconductor quantum structures. The thesis is divided into two parts. The first part gives an introduction of the research fields, together with a brief summary of the scientific results included in the thesis. READ MORE
