    Abstract : This thesis is an investigation into how meta-heuristic multi-objective optimisation processes (genetic algorithms driven by evolutionary solvers) can bring about materials-related advantages in architectural performance. It redefines the architect’s and engineer’s role from being designers of a singular space or structure to being designers of entire species of spaces, and discusses a particular method – anticipatory adaptive assemblages (AAA) – that allows such processes to produce many generations of design iterations that eventually yield individuals optimised for a set of predefined objectives. 2. 2. National environmental evaluation systems : guiding towards sustainability?

    Author : Magnus Larsson; Anders Hanberger; Katarina Eckerberg; Daniel Larsson; Per Mickwitz; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; environmental evaluation; evaluation systems; evaluation use; sustainable development; program theory; stakeholders; environmental policy;

    Abstract : Background: Dealing with environmental threats is one of the largest, if not the largest, challenge contemporary societies face. One way to better deal with this challenge would be to produce knowledge that can be used to improve environmental work and environmental policy and thus ultimately contribute to sustainable development. 3. 3. Methods to Improve V2V Communications in Platoons of Heavy Duty Vehicles

    Author : Marcus Larsson; Magnus Jonsson; Tony Larsson; Elad Schiller; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : In the coming years V2V communications will probably be mandated and vehicle OEMs strive to find business opportunities to finance its investments in V2V communications technology. For heavy vehicles, platooning can be this business opportunity, with the motivation for the fleet owners that platooning can decrease the fuel consumption by up to 15 % when driving in platoons. 4. 4. Applying configuration management techniques to component-based systems

    Author : Magnus Larsson; Hans Hansson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Computer Systems; Datorteknik;

    Abstract : Building software from components, rather than writing the code from scratch has several advantages, including reduced time to market and more efficient resource usage. However, component-based development without consideration of all the risks and limitations involved may give unpredictable results, such as the failure of a system when a component is used in an environment for which it was not originally designed. 5. 5. Behavioral and Structural Model Based Approaches to Discrete Diagnosis

    Author : Magnus Larsson; Lennart Ljung; Inger Klein; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : The basic motivation for this thesis is the fact that things go wrong. With the growing complexity of todays engineering systems, the need has arisen for systematic approaches to failure diagnosis, i.e., fault detection and isolation. READ MORE
