6. Compression Techniques for Code Size and Data Bandwidth Reduction
Abstract : A challenge in the design of high performance computer systems is how to transferdata efficiently between main memory and the faster and smaller memory located onthe processor chip. Main memory holds both the program to be executed and the datait needs to perform its tasks. READ MORE

7. A Taxonomy and Design Methodology for Hybrid Memory Systems
Abstract : The number of concurrently executing processes and their memory demandin multicore systems continue to grow. Larger and still fast mainmemory is needed for meeting the demand and avoiding an increase inbacking store accesses that are much slower and less energy efficientthan main memory accesses. READ MORE

8. Towards Accurate Estimation of Error Sensitivity in Computer Systems
Abstract : Fault injection is an increasingly important method for assessing, measuringand observing the system-level impact of hardware and software faults in computer systems. This thesis presents the results of a series of experimental studies in which fault injection was used to investigate the impact of bit-flip errors on program execution. READ MORE

9. Database technology for control and simulation
Abstract : This thesis shows how modern database technology can improve data management in engineering applications. It is divided into four parts. The first part reviews modern database technology with respect to engineering applications. The second part addresses data management in control applications. READ MORE

10. Techniques for Tolerating Soft Errors in Brake-by-Wire Systems
Abstract : This thesis addresses the problem of tolerating soft errors in brake-by-wire systems. Soft errors are caused by ionizing particles and manifest themselves as bit-flips in memory registers, latches, and flip-flops. As transistors are shrunk to sustain Moore's law, the frequency of such radiation-induced faults increases. READ MORE
