  1. 6. Road Design for Future Maintenance : Life-cycle Cost Analyses for Road Barriers

    Author : Hawzheen Karim; Björn Birgisson; Ulf Isacsson; Rolf Magnusson; Robert Thomson; KTH; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; road maintenance; road management; road planning; road design; life-cycle cost; road barrier; guardrails; cable barrier; road traffic injuries; barrier collisions and barrier repair costs.; Civil engineering and architecture; Samhällsbyggnadsteknik och arkitektur; Vägprojektering för minskade drift- och underhållskostnader;

    Abstract : The cost of a road construction over its service life is a function of design, quality of construction as well as maintenance strategies and operations. An optimal life-cycle cost for a road requires evaluations of the above mentioned components. READ MORE

  2. 7. Physical activity and the young female skeleton

    Author : Örnolfur Valdimarsson; Malmö Institutionen för kliniska vetenskaper; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; muskelsystem; reumatologi; Skelett; Skeleton; muscle system; rheumatology locomotion; Bone mass; Osteoporosis; Young female skeleton; Physical activity;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to identify the influence of calcium, physical activity and detraining on bone mass and bone size in girls and young women. We hypothesised that calcium intake above a specific level does not enhance the accrual of bone mineral, that exercise predominantly influences the skeleton in the early pubertal period and that reduced training is followed by a loss of exercise-induced skeletal benefits. 3. 8. Biochemical studies of mitochondrial DNA maintenance and topology

    Author : Direnis Erdinc; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mtDNA maintenance; topoisomerase; replication;

    Abstract : Mitochondria are crucial organelles in eukaryotic cells that produce the majority of adenosine trisphosphate used by cells as an energy currency to drive metabolic processes. Due to the endosymbiotic origin of mitochondria, they have their own genetic material, a small circular double-stranded molecule (mtDNA) of 16. READ MORE
