1. Cost optimization of maintenance scheduling for wind turbines with aging components
Abstract : A major part of the wind turbine operation cost is resulted from the maintenance of its components. This thesis deals with the theory, algorithms, and applications concerning minimization of the maintenance cost of wind power turbines, using mathematical modelling to find the optimal schedules of preventive maintenance activities for multi-component systems. 2. Experimental Validation and Applications of a Phased Array Ultrasonic Testing Probe Model
Abstract : New manufacturing technologies are developed to facilitate flexible product designs and production processes. However, the quality of the final products should not be compromised. The assessment of product quality and integrity lies on various inspection methods. READ MORE

4. Multi-Disciplinary Conceptual Design of Future Jet Engine Systems
Abstract : This thesis describes various aspects of the development of a multi-disciplinary aero engine conceptual design tool, TERA2020 (Techno-economic, Environmental and Risk Assessment for 2020), based on an explicit algorithm that considers: engine performance, engine aerodynamic and mechanical design, aircraft design and performance, emissions prediction and environmental impact, engine and airframe noise, and production, maintenance and direct operating costs. As part of this research effort, a newly-derived semi-empirical NOx correlation for modern rich-burn single-annular combustors is proposed. 5. Articular and epiphyseal cartilage : its formation, maintenance and repair
Abstract : Long bones develop via a series of ordered processes, initiated from mesenchymal stem cell condensation, cartilage anlagen formation, followed by central cell hypertrophy and vascular invasion and the finalized by the formation of primary and secondary ossification centers (SOC), where the latter is also called endochondral ossification. As long bone develops, it can be distinguished in to several morphologically distinct parts: the main shaft of a long bone, called diaphysis; a narrow disc of growth plate, providing a continuous supply of chondrocytes for longitudinal growth; a thin layer of articular cartilage at the ends of epiphysis, supporting joint movement, and a SOC, sandwiched between the two pieces of cartilage.
