22. Protection Strategies to Mitigate Major Power Systems Breakdowns
Abstract : This thesis deals with new methods to improve the performance of power system protection in the case of voltage- and transient instability. These methods are designed primarily to mitigate power system breakdown. Relay algorithms are proposed where conventional distance protection is combined with additional relay criteria. READ MORE

23. Inflammatory responses in minor and major surgical procedures
Abstract : Surgical procedures promote an inflammatory response, correlating to the extent of the procedure performed and influencing outcome after surgery. The aims of the thesis were to investigate factors modulating the inflammatory response perioperatively and to evaluate cell salvage for indications so far not accepted in clinical practice. 24. Multivariate Aspects of Phylogenetic Comparative Methods
Abstract : his thesis concerns multivariate phylogenetic comparative methods. We investigate two aspects of them. The first is the bias caused by measurement error in regression studies of comparative data. We calculate the formula for the bias and show how to correct for it. READ MORE

25. Systemic and Local Inflammatory Mediator Response to Major Surgery
Abstract : Cell-signalling via cytokines modulates the local response to surgical trauma, directs the immunologic response and initiates the healing process. Surgical trauma induces a systemic cytokine response and a down-regulation of the antigen presentation capacity of monocytes (HLA-DR expression), which is associated with a poor prognosis if pronounced.
