  1. 1. Determination of biomarkers for lipid peroxidation and oxidative stress Development of analytical techniques and methods

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Institutionen för analytisk kemi

    Author : Kristina Claeson Bohnstedt; Stockholms universitet.; [2005]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; capillary electrophoresis; mass spectrometry; electrospray; porous graphitic carbon; oxidative stress; lipid peroxidation; biomarker; malondialdehyde; hydroxynonenal; isoprostane; NATURAL SCIENCES Chemistry Analytical chemistry; NATURVETENSKAP Kemi Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : Oxidative stress can be defined as a state of disturbance in the pro-oxidant/antioxidant balance in favour of the former, leading to potential damage. Processes associated with oxidative stress involve reactive oxygen species and radicals and can result in elevated levels of oxidatively modified or toxic molecules that can cause cellular malfunction, and even cell death. 2. 2. Exhaled markers of oxidative stress in the airways

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Institutionen för analytisk kemi

    Author : Mona Lärstad; Göteborgs universitet.; Gothenburg University.; [2004]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; exhaled air; exhaled breath condensate; malondialdehyde; 3-nitrotyrosine; ethane; pentane; isoprene; oxidative stress; airways; inflammation;

    Abstract : Breath contains a number of different molecules, some of which may have potential use as markers for oxidative stress in the airways during chronic airway inflammation. The major objectives were to develop and validate methods for quantifying five potential exhaled markers of oxidative stress: malondialdehyde (MDA) and free 3-nitrotyrosine (3-NT) in exhaled breath condensate (EBC) and ethane, pentane and isoprene in exhaled air, and to test the applicability of the methods. Abstract : Popular Abstract in Swedish Nyligen genomförda undersökningar pekar på att mellan en och två procent av den vuxna befolkningen lider av hjärtsvikt (hjärtinsufficiens/hjärtinkompensation), en oförmåga hos hjärtat att med ett normalt fyllnadstryck förse kroppens olika organ med blod. Vanligtvis är orsaken primärt kardiell (utgående från hjärtat) där ischemisk hjärtsjukdom (kranskärlssjukdom) utgör den största gruppen antingen orsakad av en hjärtinfarkt, där den kvarvarande hjärtmuskeln är otillräcklig för att upprätthålla en adekvat pumpförmåga, eller orsakad av en fortlöpande hjärtmuskelskada orsakad av kronisk syrebrist i hjärtmuskel på basen av kranskärlsförträngningar. 4. 4. Cellular immunity and inflammation in atherosclerosis

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Karolinska Institutet, Department of Molecular Medicine

    Author : Dirk Marcus Wuttge; Karolinska Institutet.; Karolinska Institutet.; [2001]
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atherosclerosis; T cell; oxLDL; malondialdehyde; hapten; posttranslational; interleukin-] 5; retinoic acid receptor; inflammation;

    Abstract : Atherosclerosis, the major cause of death and disability in western countries, is nowadays recognized as an inflammatory disease. Low density lipoprotein (LDL), the major carrier of cholesterol in plasma, is trapped in the subendothelial space, where compounds inside of LDL are chemically modified through lipid peroxidation. 5. 5. Micellar electrokinetic chromatography with laser-induced fluorescence detection applied to the analysis of biological samples

    University dissertation from Stockholm : Stockholm University

    Author : Gunnar Thorsén; Stockholms universitet.; [2000]
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : The research presented in this thesis is focused on the potential for using the combination of micellar electrokinetic chromatography with laser-induced fluorescence detection for the determination of compounds in biological samples. The topics that have been addressed are the development of separation electrolytes, the need for sample preparation procedures, the derivatization of the compounds of interest and the detection of these by laser-induced fluorescence.
