1. Blue native polyacrylamide gel electrophoresis - a functional approach to plant plasma membrane proteome studies
Abstract : In this thesis, I have shown that a method called BN-PAGE (a kind of native gel electrophoresis) can be used for studying the protein composition in the plasma membrane of plants. The method enables the study of native (in the functional units) hydrophobic protein complexes, i.e. READ MORE

2. Chemoenzymatic synthesis of anionic alkyl glycosides
Abstract : Growing concerns for environmental issues and product safety for users have shifted research interests towards the use of renewable resources and climate-neutral processes. The enzymatic approach having high selectivity under mild reaction conditions is promising, and the nature-originating products are well accepted. READ MORE

3. Poly (3-hydroxybutyrate) from a moderate halophile: production and modification for new applications
Abstract : Polyhydroxybutyrate (PHB) is a homopolymer belonging to the family of biopolyesters, polyhydroxyalkanoates (PHA) produced by different bacteria and archaea as intracellular granules often under conditions of metabolic stress due to a limited supply of essential nutrients. The properties of the PHAs are similar to those of polyethylene and polypropylene and can hence replace these fossil based polymers in a large variety of applications. READ MORE

4. Enzymatic Synthesis of Alkyl Glycosides. New Applications for Glycoside Hydrolases
Abstract : The environmental problems caused by human interventions, such as the consumption of non-renewable resources and the emission of greenhouse gases are well-recognised. Calls have been made for immediate measures to develop more sustainable society worldwide. READ MORE

5. Alkylglycoside Surfactants - Self-Assembly, Solid-State Properties and Interactions with Hydrophobic Molecules
Abstract : A thorough physical-chemical characterisation of alkylglycosides has been performed. The effects of temperature, salt, concentration and deuterium exchange on the self-aggregation of n-nonyl-b-D-glucoside (b-C9G1) and n-tetradecyl-b-D-maltoside (b-C14G2) have been studied in dilute solutions by static and dynamic light scattering, neutron scattering, rheology, capillary viscometry and tensiometry.
