  1. 1. Multiphase continuum modeling of wood : A hybrid mixture theory approach

    Author : Winston Mmari; Björn Johannesson; Lynn Schreyer; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Moisture transport; Coupled heat and moisture; Over-hygroscopic; Hybrid mixture theory; Mixture theory; Swelling; Hygro-mechanical; Non-linear elasticity; Large deformation; Phase field crack model; Anisotropic cracking; FEM; Numerical model; Norway spruce; Wood; Porous media; Forestry and Wood Technology; Skog och träteknik;

    Abstract : Wood has been used as a construction material for a very long time. The development of efficient industrial production processes of wood has expanded the use of the material with the introduction of new products, such as engineered wood products. READ MORE

  2. 2. Aspects of Energy Resource Management

    Author : Tomas Kåberger; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bio-energy; value; interdisciplinary; life-cycle analysis; tax-shift; resource; energy; electricity;

    Abstract : Energy resource management requires input from many disciplines. The three first papers in this thesis deals with the use of physical terms in the interdisciplinary process where inputs from different disciplines are handled together. READ MORE

  3. 3. Towards Systemic Governance of Critical Infrastructure Protection : State and Relevance of a Swedish Case

    Author : Christine Große; Aron Larsson; Olof Björkqvist; Pär M. Olausson; Alexander Fekete; Mittuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Systemic Thinking; Infrastructure; Governance; Critical Infrastructure Protection; Complex Systems; Soft Operations Research; design-oriented Information Systems Research; Integrative System Analysis; KISA; STYREL; Multi-level Planning; Adaption; Emergence; Entropy; Systemic Governance;

    Abstract : The protection of infrastructure that is critical to society’s functionality, survival and progression has gained significance for both national security and research because of its large-scale and interdependent nature. Critical infrastructure can be viewed as a complex, socio-technical system-of-systems that imposes extensive requirements on governance efforts to foster critical infrastructure protection (CIP), regardless of whether it involves public organisations, private organisations or both. 4. 4. Active Resource Management in Middleware and Service-oriented Architectures

    Author : Niklas Widell; Institutionen för elektro- och informationsteknik; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Telekommunikationsteknik; Telecommunication engineering; Intelligent Networks; TINA; web systems; distributed systems; resource allocation; stochastic optimization; simulation models; performance analysis; overload control; load balancing;

    Abstract : In this thesis, we study load balancing and overload control in two distributed architectures: Distributed Object Computing (DOC) systems and Services-oriented Architecture (SOA) systems. While DOC and SOA have differences in terms of implementation, they are similar from a performance viewpoint. READ MORE

  5. 5. Investigation of Thermal Performance of Cylindrical Heatpipes Operated with Nanofluids

    Author : Morteza Ghanbarpourgeravi; Rahmatollah Khodabandeh; Björn Palm; Oronzio Manca; KTH; []
    Keywords : Nanofluid; heat pipe; thermal resistance; heat transfer coefficient; evaporator; condenser; wick; porous layer; heat flux; inclination angle; thermal conductivity; viscosity; Energiteknik; Energy Technology;

    Abstract : Nanofluids as an innovative class of heat transfer fluids created by dispersing nanometre-sizedmetallic or non-metallic particles in conventional heat transfer fluids displayed the potential toimprove the thermophysical properties of the heat transfer fluids. The main purpose of this study is toinvestigate the influence of the use of nanofluids on two-phase heat transfer, particularly on thethermal performance of the heat pipes. READ MORE
