  1. 1. Iron, Manganese and Iridium Complexes From Models of RNR and Catalase to Water Oxidation

    Author : Michele Bedin; Anders Dr. Thapper; Sascha Prof. Ott; Vadim G. Kessler; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Iron; manganese; MnCAT; RNR; biomimetic; Kemi; Chemistry;

    Abstract : The focus of this thesis has been synthesise and study metal complexes that mimic the structure and function of the active site in two particular metalloenzymes, ribonucleotide reductase (RNR) and manganese catalase (MnCAT). These two metalloenzymes both have two transition metals ions in the cofactor: two manganese ions in MnCAT and either two iron, iron-manganese or two manganese ions in RNR. READ MORE

  2. 2. Oxidative stress, antioxidative defence and outcome of gestation in experimental diabetic pregnancy

    Author : Jonas Cederberg; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cell biology; Diabetes; pregnancy; rat; ROS; free oxygen radicals; TBARS; isoprostanes; protein carbonyls; embryo; vitamin C; vitamin E; Cellbiologi; Cell biology; Cellbiologi; medicinsk cellbiologi; Medical Cell Biology;

    Abstract : Maternal type 1 diabetes is associated with an increased risk for foetal malformations. The mechanism by which diabetes is teratogenic is not fully known. Previous studies have demonstrated that radical oxygen species can contribute to the teratogenicity of glucose and diabetes. READ MORE

  3. 3. Multifunctional silk: from fabrication to application

    Author : Manish Singh; Tillämpad biokemi; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Silk; Sonochemistry; Supercritical impregnation; Nanofiller; Soft biosensor; Enzyme mimic;

    Abstract : Silk fibers offer untapped internal structures to template the formation of nano-objects and active coatings. So far, access to all or part of the internal and organized structures has been a significant challenge. READ MORE
