    Abstract : The synthesis of some 11C-labelled (tl/2=20.3 min) monosaccharides is presented. Terminal labelled alkenes were synthesized and selectively oxidized using asymmetric dihydroxylation (AD) and palladium(II)-promoted oxidation.     Abstract : In this thesis, four different types of provocation agents: methacholine, adenosine, cold air and mannitol were used to study different aspects of the airway responsiveness profile in asthma and Sjögren's syndrome.     Abstract : The structures of two capsular polysaccharide antigens from Streptococcus pneumoniae, types 12A and 12F, have been investigated.
