  1. 1. Causal inference and case-control studies with applications related to childhood diabetes

    Author : Emma Persson; Ingeborg Waernbaum; Xavier de Luna; Gisela Dahlquist; Stijn Vansteelandt; Umeå universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; covariate selection; design-weighted estimation; marginal effect; matching; register study; treatment effect; type 1 diabetes mellitus; Statistics; statistik;

    Abstract : This thesis contributes to the research area of causal inference, where estimation of the effect of a treatment on an outcome of interest is the main objective. Some aspects of the estimation of average causal effects in observational studies in general, and case-control studies in particular, are explored. READ MORE

  2. 2. Essays on Microeconometrics and Immigrant Assimilation

    Author : Alpaslan Akay; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Average marginal effect; Marginal effect of the average individual; Employment and earnings assimilation; Quasi-fixed effects approach; Initial value problem; Dynamic censored random-effects model; Monte Carlo experiment; Heckman’s approximation; Simple method of Wooldridge; Dynamic random-effects sample-selection model; wage-curve method;

    Abstract : Paper I. Asymptotic bias reduction for a conditional marginal effects estimator in sam- ple selection models. In this article we discuss the di¤erences between the average marginal effect and the mar- ginal effect of the average individual in sample selection models, estimated by the Heck- man procedure. 3. 3. Parameters affecting the functionality of additives in lubricated contacts : effect of base oil polarity

    Author : Aldara Naveira Suarez; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Maskinelement; Machine Elements;

    Abstract : Traditionally rolling contact fatigue observed in bearing field applications was subsurface initiated. However, despite the improvement of steel properties, some factors such as downsizing in bearing design, extreme loading of the bearings as well as demanding application conditions (start up-stop cycles) have led to an increase on the cases of surface damage related to surface initiated fatigue, that comes basically from surface distress. 4. 4. Radiographic follow-up analysis of Br?nemark? dental implants

    Author : Solweig Sundén Pikner; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Cluster effect; Dental implants; Dependency; Diagnostic accuracy; Long-term follow-up; Marginal bone level; Observer variation; Osseointegration; Prediction;

    Abstract : Radiography plays an important role in clinical routine practice and in research projects evaluating dental implants, among them Br?nemark? System. Presence of a peri-implant radiolucency has been used in studies as a criterion for implant failure without knowledge of its diagnostic accuracy. READ MORE

  5. 5. The effect of tobacco exposure on bone healing and the osseointegrationof dental implants

    Author : Shariel Sayardoust; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; crevicular fluid; dental implants; gene expression; human; implant surfaces; implant survival; marginal bone loss; osseointegration; pain; periodontitis; resonance frequently analysis; smoking; titanium;

    Abstract : Background: The mechanisms behind the impact of smoking on osseointegration are not fully understood. Aim: To correlate the clinical and molecular aspects of osseointegration in smokers compared with non-smokers. READ MORE
