  1. 1. Functional diversity of zooplankton in marine food webs : Integrating DNA metabarcoding and network modeling

    Author : Andreas Novotny; Monika Winder; Catherine Legrand; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Plankton; Food-Webs; DNA metabarcoding; Marine; Baltic Sea; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Abstract : The oceans are important regulators of the Earth’s climate system by sequestering carbon from the atmosphere taken up by primary producers. Zooplankton, including protozoans and metazoans of different phyla and size classes, occupies several trophic niches and regulates energy flow between primary producers and fish. READ MORE

  2. 2. Ciliates in marine food webs : behaviours structuring plankton communities

    Author : Mona Johansson; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Infusionsdjur; Plankton;

    Abstract : .... READ MORE

  3. 3. The Spider and the Sea : Effects of marine subsidies on the role of spiders in terrestrial food webs

    Author : Kajsa Mellbrand; Peter Hambäck; Lena Kautsky; David Wise; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marine subsidies; food webs; stable isotopes; shore ecosystems; predators; spiders; Pardosa; algae; emerging insects; Terrestrial; freshwater and marine ecology; Terrestisk; limnisk och marin ekologi; Plant Ecology; växtekologi;

    Abstract : The purpose of this study was to identify if terrestrial arthropod predators on Baltic Sea shores vary in their use of marine versus terrestrial food items, and to construct a bottom-up food web for Baltic Sea shores. The inflow of marine nutrients in the area consists mainly of marine algal detritus and emerging aquatic insects (e.g. READ MORE

  4. 4. Direct and indirect effects of fish predation and excretion in aquatic food webs

    Author : José Luiz Attayde; Biologiska institutionen; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; marine biology; Hydrobiology; zooplankton; resilience; predation; phytoplankton; nutrient enrichment; nutrient recycling; interaction strength; herbivory; food webs; food chain; excretion; fish; detritus; detritivory; aquatic ecology; limnology; Marinbiologi; limnologi; akvatisk ekologi; Ecology; Ekologi;

    Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to elucidate the mechanisms by which planktivorous fish can affect planktonic communities in lakes and how they may affect benthic communities through their effects on planktonic communities. In a laboratory experiment, nutrients released by fish increased algal biomass and altered phytoplankton community structure, suggesting that fish can affect phytoplankton by directly releasing nutrients. 5. 5. Species interactions and energy transfer in aquatic food webs

    Author : Jens Munk Nielsen; Monika Winder; Sture Hansson; Michael T. Brett; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Aquatic food webs; zooplankton; stable isotope analysis amino acids; molecular diet analysis; Marine Ecology; marin ekologi;

    Abstract : Food webs are structured by intricate nodes of species interactions which govern the flow of organic matter in natural systems. Despite being long recognized as a key component in ecology, estimation of food web functioning is still challenging due to the difficulty in accurately measuring species interactions within a food web.
