  1. 1. Simplifying complex models : Application of modeling tools in exposure assessment of organic pollutants

    Author : Emma Undeman; Michael McLachlan; Kathrin Fenner; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; mass balance model; environmental modeling; exposure modeling; bioaccumulation; organic contaminants; emission estimate; plant model; steady state; poly parameter linear free energy relationship; PPLFER; ecosystem susceptibility; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi; Persistent organic compounds; Persistenta organiska föreningar; Applied Environmental Science; tillämpad miljövetenskap;

    Abstract : Thousands of chemicals are used in society, but the exposure to humans and other organisms has been measured only for a small number of compounds. Modeling tools constitute low-cost and effective alternatives to measurements for the assessment of exposure. READ MORE

  2. 2. Melting behaviour of reduced iron ore pellets and raceway adiabatic flame Temperature Characteristics in the Blast Furnace

    Author : Joel Gustavsson; KTH; []
    Keywords : Ironmaking; Blast furnace practice; Pellets; Reduction chemical ; Melting; Carburizing; Mass balance; Heat balance; Tuyeres; Combustion; Fuel injection; Flux Injection; Mathematical models;

  3. 3. Models of the Distribution of Persistent Organic Pollutants in the Marine Environment

    Author : N. Johan Persson; Dag Broman; Kevin Jones; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; persistent organic pollutants; mass balance models; fugacity models; eutrophication; PCDD F; PCB; PCN; soot carbon.; Environmental chemistry; Miljökemi;

    Abstract : Persistent organic pollutants (POPs) is a group of chemicals that are toxic, undergo long-range transport and accumulate in biota. Due to their persistency the distribution and recirculation in the environment often continues for a long period of time. READ MORE

  4. 4. Combining Models of Coronal Mass Ejections and Solar Dynamos

    Author : Jörn Warnecke; Axel Brandenburg; Juri Toomre; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Magnetohydrodynamics; convection; turbulence; solar dynamo; solar rotation; solar activity; coronal mass ejections; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Abstract : Observations show that Coronal Mass Ejections (CMEs) are associated with twisted magnetic flux configurations. Conventionally, CMEs are modeled by shearing and twisting the footpoints of a certain distribution of magnetic flux at the solar surface and letting it evolve at the surface. READ MORE

  5. 5. Appropriate Modelling Complexity: An Application to Mass Balance Modelling of Lake Vänern, Sweden

    Author : Magnus Dahl; Lars Håkanson; David I Wilson; Gesa Weyhenmeyer; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Earth sciences; Lake Vänern; phosphorus; mass balance modelling; model complexity; Geovetenskap; Earth sciences; Geovetenskap;

    Abstract : This work is about finding an appropriate modelling complexity for a mass-balance model for phosphorus in Lake Vänern, Sweden. A statistical analysis of 30 years of water quality data shows that epilimnion and hypolimnion have different water quality and should be treated separately in a model. Further vertical division is not motivated. READ MORE
