  1. 1. Improved Neuropeptide Identification : Bioinformatics and Mass Spectrometry

    Author : Maria Fälth Savitski; Per Andrén; David Fenyö; Per Svenningsson; Ronald Beavis; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; bioinformatics; neuropepides; database; peptide identification; peptide fragmentation; mass spectrometry; tandem mass spectromerty; Bioinformatics; Bioinformatik;

    Abstract : Bioinformatic methods were developed for improved identification of endogenous peptides using mass spectrometry. As a framework for these methods, a database for endogenous peptides, SwePep, was created. It was designed for storing information about endogenous peptides including tandem mass spectra. READ MORE

  2. 2. New Tools for Analysis of Wood and Pulp Components - Application of MALDI-TOF Mass Spectroscopy and Capillary Zone Electrophoresis

    Author : Anna Jacobs; KTH; []
    Keywords : Capillary zone electrophoresis; carbohydrate composition; degree of acetylation; degree of polymerization; enzymatic hydrolysis; hardwood; hemicellulose; hexenuronic acid; lignin; MALDI-TOF mass spectroscopy; molar mass; molar mass distribution; olig;

    Abstract : In the present thesis, capillary zone electrophoresis (CZE),matrix-assisted laser desorption/ionization time-of-flight massspectroscopy (MALDI-MS) and size-exclusion chromatography incombination with off-line MALDI-MS (SEC/MALDI-MS) have beenapplied successfully to the analysis of wood and pulpcomponents.The carbohydrate compositions of pulp and holocellulosesamples, as well as of isolated hemicellulose preparations,were determined employing enzymatic hydrolysis and subsequentanalysis of the saccharides released by CZE. 3. 3. Mass Spectrometric Analysis of Oxylipins : Application to Cytochrome P450-Dependent Metabolism

    Author : Tomas Nilsson; Ernst Oliw; Johan Bylund; Mikael Hedeland; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; epoxyalcohols; fatty acids; hydroperoxides; electrospray ionization; ichthyosis; CYP4; linear ion trap; fragmentation mechanism; Pharmaceutical pharmacology; Farmaceutisk farmakologi; Biochemical Pharmacology; Biokemisk farmakologi;

    Abstract : Cytochrome P450 (CYP) family 4 constitutes monoxygenases responsible for hydroxylation of fatty acids and other lipids. For example, CYP4F3 metabolizes leukotrienes and CYP4F8 prostaglandin H. Importantly, six of the twelve CYP4 enzymes are orphans, i.e. READ MORE

  4. 4. Characterization of Polypeptides by Tandem Mass Spectrometry Using Complementary Fragmentation Techniques

    Author : Michael Lund Nielsen; Roman A. Zubarev; Per Andrén; Ole Nörregaard Jensen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : Analytical chemistry; Mass Spectrometry; Electron capture dissociation ECD ; Collision-activated dissociation CAD ; Proteomics; Post-translational modifications; De Novo sequencing; Bioinformatics; Analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : In the growing field of proteomics identification of proteins by tandem mass spectrometry (MS/MS) is performed by matching experimental mass spectra against calculated spectra of all possible peptides in a protein database. One problem with this approach is the false-positive identifications. READ MORE

  5. 5. Novel clean-up, concentration and laser desorption/ionization strategies for mass spectrometry

    Author : Mohammadreza Shariatgorji; Leopold Ilag; Juan Astorga-wells; Bernhard Spengler; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mass spectrometry; ESI-MS; SALDI-MS; Electrocapture; Sample treatment; Analytical chemistry; Analytisk kemi; Analytical Chemistry; analytisk kemi;

    Abstract : Despite valuable advantages of mass spectrometry (MS) techniques they still have drawbacks that need to be overcome, notably their sensitivity to various kinds of interfering substances and associated difficulties involved in detecting signals from analytes present in trace quantities. Thus, high quality analytical data could be acquired by improving sample pre-treatment techniques and/or ionization methods to increase ionization yields and/or avoid the generation of unwanted ions.
