  1. 1. Vibrations in timber floors : Dynamic properties and human perception

    Author : Kirsi Jarnerö; Anders Professor; Tomi Toratti; Linnéuniversitetet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wooden floor; timber floor; vibration; design criteria; damping; frequency; questionnaire; field test; socio-vibrational survey; vibration annoyance; vibration disturbance; Byggteknik; Civil engineering;

    Abstract : Springiness and vibrations of timber floors are familiar to many as a ‘live’ feelwhen walking on them, especially if living in single family housing with timberframework. Since the building regulations in Sweden changed to performancedependentrequirements in 1994 the use of timber in multifamily housing hasincreased. READ MORE

    Abstract : Increasing awareness of sustainable building materials has led to interest in enhancing the structural performance of engineered wood products. Wood is a sustainable, renewable material, and the increasing use of wood in construction contributes to its sustainability. READ MORE

  3. 3. Off-site manufacturing systems development in timber house building : Towards mass customization-oriented manufacturing

    Author : Djordje Popovic; Mats Winroth; Jönköping University; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; LANTBRUKSVETENSKAPER; AGRICULTURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The need for housing in Sweden has been showing a constant increase over the past couple of years. However, this situation might change in 2018 since there are indications that the increase in demand will reach its peak. READ MORE

  4. 4. Moisture Transport and Moisture-Induced Distortions in Timber - an Experimental and Numerical Study

    Author : John Eriksson; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; heat transfer; gluing; twist; drying; wood; timber board; laminated product; FEM; distortion; moisture; mass transfer;

    Abstract : Timber products subjected to climatic variations commonly display moisture-induced distortions that can lead to serious problems for end-users. The aim of the thesis, which consists of an extended summary and six appended papers, was to investigate the potential of using the gluing technique suggested here for dealing with problems of moisture-induced distortions and developing the heat and mass transfer models which such distortion analyses require. 5. 5. Architecturally Innovative Multi-Storey Timber Buildings : Methodology and Design

    Author : Axel Kaiser; Andreas Falk; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Träbyggnad; Timber Structures;

    Abstract : This investigation applies architectural ideas of mass-customised difference and repetition, and tests them within the engineering paradigm of very tall timber buildings – taller than have ever been erected in the history of architecture. According to Edward Glaeser’s book, Triumph of the City, the cheapest way to deliver new housing (at least in the USA) is in theform of mass-produced two-storey homes, which typically cost only about $84 per square foot to erect.
