Abstract : Non-medullary differentiated thyroid cancer (DTC) is a rare disorder but, nevertheless, among the most common cancers in individuals below 40 years of age. 23. Non-Hodgkin's lymphoma : a search for causes
Abstract : The aim of this thesis was to investigate some factors of possible importance for the development of non-Hodgkin's lymphoma (NHL), namely ultraviolet (UV) light, maternal and perinatal characteristics, blood transfusions, and smoking. To test the UV light hypothesis, a cohort study of secondary occurrence of skin cancer (malignant melanoma and squamous cell skin cancer) following NHL, and of NHL following skin cancer, was executed. 24. Chromosome aberrations and environmental exposures in acute leukemia
Abstract : The aims of this thesis are to evaluate the role of environmental exposures, especially professional exposure to organic solvents and petroleum products in the etiology of acute leukemia and to investigate if there is a correlation between the exposure to a specific leukemogen factor and a clonal chromosome aberration of the leukemic cells. Papers I and II present results of a case-control study of environmental exposures, in all occupations during life-time, medical treatments with medicines, chemotherapy and radiation, tobacco-use and the exposure to chemical compounds in private life in 120 patients with acute leukemia and of 120 controls, matched for age (+ 4 years), residence and sex. 25. Spontaneous abortion : risk factors and measurement of exposures
Abstract : The overall objectives of this thesis were to increase the understanding of the etiology of spontaneous abortion and repeated spontaneous abortion, and to evaluate possibilities of exposure assessment during pregnancy. Data from a Swedish population-based case-control study of spontaneous abortion, performed in Uppsala County 1996-98, formed the base for the three first studies of the thesis. READ MORE
