  1. 1. On Aortic Blood Flow Simulations : Scale-Resolved Image-Based CFD

    Author : Jonas Lantz; Matts Karlsson; Shawn Shadden; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY;

    Abstract : This thesis focuses on modeling and simulation of the blood flow in the aorta, the largest artery in the human body. It is an accepted fact that abnormal biological and mechanical interactions between the blood flow and the vessel wall are involved in the genesis and progression of cardiovascular diseases. 2. 2. Goal Function Approach to Growth and Remodeling of Arteries

    Author : Ganarupan Satha; Anders Klarbring; Stefan B. Lindström; Jonas Stålhand; Håkan Johansson; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : In this thesis we develop a new goal function approach to investigate stability of the growth processes in blood vessels and cost-optimal composition and geometry of these vessels. In the vascular system of a healthy individual, the living composition of the arterial wall must regenerate and remodel continuously during the entire lifetime to maintain itself. READ MORE

  3. 3. Small-Scale Dosimetry for the Testis: Applications in Nuclear Medicine Diagnostics and Therapy

    Author : Suaad Meerkhan; Lund Medicinsk strålningsfysik; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Testis; 111-In; Autoradiography; Biodistribution; Small-Scale; Monte Carlo; Dosimetry; spermatogonia; gammaH2AX; immunofluorescence;

    Abstract : It is well known that the testicles are among the most radiosensitive tissue, and constitute an important critical target for both external and internal radiation during diagnostic and therapeutic use of radionuclides. In systemic radionuclide therapy where very high activities are administered, the testis may become a dose-limiting organ; often with a complex, non-uniform activity distribution and a resulting non-uniform absorbed-dose distribution. 4. 4. Monitoring principles for haemodialysis

    Author : Roger Andersson; Olof Lindahl; Linköpings universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN;

    Abstract : This thesis deals with non-invasive monitoring techniques for haemodialysis. Three applications in particular have been investigated: Blood pressure measurements in the extra corporal circuit, the relationship between UV measurements and dialysate urea concentration and photoplethysmography (PPG) in haemodialysis patients.
