  1. 1. Carbide and MAX-Phase Engineering by Thin Film Synthesis

    Author : Jens-Petter Palmquist; Ulf Jansson; M. Jochen Schneider; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Inorganic chemistry; Thin films; microstructure; epitaxy; carbide; WC; MAX-phase; Ti3SiC2; DC magnetron sputtering; PVD; Reciprocal Space Mapping; RSM; Oorganisk kemi; Inorganic chemistry; Oorganisk kemi;

    Abstract : This thesis reports on the development of low-temperature processes for transition metal carbide and MAX-phase thin film growth. Magnetron sputtering and evaporation, far from thermodynamical equilibrium, have been utilised to engineer the properties of the films by physical and chemical control. READ MORE

  2. 2. Coherent Diffractive Imaging with X-ray Lasers

    Author : Max Felix Hantke; Filipe R. N. C. Maia; Janos Hajdu; Martin Svenda; Edgar Weckert; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURAL SCIENCES; coherent diffractive X-ray imaging; lensless imaging; coherent X-ray diffractive imaging; flash diffractive imaging; single particle imaging; aerosol injection; electrospray injection; substrate-free sample delivery; carboxysome; phase retrieval; X-ray diffraction software; X-ray free-electron laser; XFEL; FEL; CXI; CDI; CXDI; FXI;

    Abstract : The newly emerging technology of X-ray free-electron lasers (XFELs) has the potential to revolutionise molecular imaging. XFELs generate very intense X-ray pulses and predictions suggest that they may be used for structure determination to atomic resolution even for single molecules. READ MORE

  3. 3. Contextualising studies in higher education : First-year experiences of studying and learning in engineering

    Author : Max Scheja; Noel Entwistle; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SAMHÄLLSVETENSKAP; SOCIAL SCIENCES; Contextualisation of studies; Engineering education; First-year experiences; Intentional analysis; Learning in higher education; Education; Pedagogik; Subject didactics; Ämnesdidaktik;

    Abstract : The study aims at investigating students’ first-year experiences of studying and learning in tertiary engineering education. At the end of their first year 86 Swedish undergraduates of electrical engineering and computer science at the Royal Institute of Technology in Stockholm were asked to reflect in writing on the conditions for studying and learning as they perceived them. 4. 4. Self-assembly of magnetic particles

    Author : Hauke Carstensen; Max Wolff; Vassilios Kapaklis; Björgvin Hjörvarsson; Benjamin Yellen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURAL SCIENCES; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; self-assembly; tunable interactions; phase transition; ferrofluid; Fysik; Physics;

    Abstract : Self-assembly is the spontaneous formation of larger structures from small building blocks. This process is driven and determined by the interactions between the constituents. READ MORE

  5. 5. Pulse Generation and Detection through Intra-Cavity Up-Conversion

    Author : Max Widarsson; Fredrik Laurell; Valdas Pasiskevicius; Peter Tidemand-Lichtenberg; KTH; []

    Abstract : The work presented in this thesis concerns two main categories: pulse detection and pulse generation, however both utilise intra-cavity up-conversion. The work regarding pulse detection deals with up-conversion LIDAR and was split into two smaller projects, the first one focused on the resolution in measurements along one line with multiple reflections, and the second focused on measurements further into the MIR, as well as performing 3D imaging.
