  1. 1. Neutron Irradiation Techniques

    Author : Julius Scherzinger; Kärnfysik; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; actinide Be; fast-neutrons; NE-213 liquid scintillator; He-4 scintillators; pulse-shape discrimination; Cf-252; absolute detection efficiency; neutron irradiation; Fysicumarkivet A:2016:Scherzinger;

    Abstract : The He-3 “crisis” has become a fact in the last decade and large scale neutron detectors based on He-3 technologies have become unaffordable. This new He-3 reality has resulted in a major effort worldwide to develop replacement neutron-detector technologies. READ MORE

  2. 2. Elastic Neutron Scattering at 96 MeV

    Author : Joakim Klug; Jan Blomgren; Arjan Plompen; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear physics; neutron; detection; CsI; elastic scattering; differential cross section; optical potential; kerma; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik; Applied Nuclear Physics; Tillämpad kärnfysik;

    Abstract : A facility for studies of elastic neutron scattering in the 50–130 MeV range has been developed. In addition to elastic neutron scattering, it has been used for (n,p) and (n,d) reaction experiments. The performance of the device has been illustrated in measurements of the (n,p) and (n,n) cross sections on 1H and 12C. READ MORE

  3. 3. Fast-Neutron Tomography using a Mobile Neutron Generator for Assessment of Steam-Water Distributions in Two-Phase Flows

    Author : Peter Andersson; Staffan Jacobsson Svärd; Henrik Sjöstrand; Stephan Pomp; Ane Håkansson; Michael Österlund; Bernhard Ludewigt; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Void distribution; neutron tomography; plastic scintillator; transmission measurements; neutron detection; Applied Nuclear Physics; Tillämpad kärnfysik;

    Abstract : This thesis describes the measurement technique of fast-neutron tomography for assessing spatial distributions of steam and water in two-phase flows. This so-called void distribution is of importance both for safe operation and for efficient use of the fuel in light water reactors, which compose the majority of the world’s commercial nuclear reactors. 4. 4. Studies of Accelerator-Driven Systems for Transmutation of Nuclear Waste

    Author : Marcus Dahlfors; Ane Håkansson; Alfred Hogenbirk; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Nuclear physics; transmutation; accelerator-driven systems; Energy Amplifier; subcritical reactors; nuclear waste; Monte Carlo simulation; burnup; actinides; fission products; benchmark; nuclear data; neutron cross sections; sensitivity analysis; neutron source; spallation target; n_TOF experiment; neutron time-of-flight; cross section measurement; FLUKA; EA-MC; MCNP; MCNP-X; EADF; TRADE; Kärnfysik; Nuclear physics; Kärnfysik;

    Abstract : Accelerator-driven systems for transmutation of nuclear waste have been suggested as a means for dealing with spent fuel components that pose potential radiological hazard for long periods of time. While not entirely removing the need for underground waste repositories, this nuclear waste incineration technology provides a viable method for reducing both waste volumes and storage times. 5. 5. Studying neutron-induced fission at IGISOL-4 : From neutron source to yield measurements and model comparisons

    Author : Andrea Mattera; Stephan Pomp; Mattias Lantz; Andreas Solders; Jonathan Wilson; Uppsala universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES;

    Abstract : Fission yields represent the probability of producing a certain nuclide in a fission event, and are important observables for fission research. For applications, accurate knowledge of the yields is fundamental at all stages of the fuel cycle of nuclear reactors, e.g., for reactivity calculations, or to estimate (spent) fuel inventory.
