  1. 6. Sustainable consumption for policymakers: measuring, learning and acting

    Author : Elena Dawkins; Viveka Palm; Mattias Höjer; Åsa Persson; Paul Ekins; KTH; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sustainable consumption; environmental pressures; consumption-based indicators; footprint; policymaker; measuring; learning; action; Sweden; Planering och beslutsanalys; Planning and Decision Analysis;

    Abstract : Current patterns and levels of consumption are a key driver of unsustainable resource use and pollution, which contributes to global environmental degradation. Rapid reductions in environmental pressures are required to avoid irreversible loss of fragile ecosystems and social and economic crises. Consumption must become sustainable. READ MORE

  2. 7. Measuring eating disorder outcome : definitions, dropout and patients' perspectives

    Author : Tabita Björk; Claes Norring; David Clinton; Gerd Ahlström; Bruno Hägglöf; Örebro universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICINE; MEDICIN; Medicine; Medicin;

    Abstract : Background: Despite a plethora of research, there are serious limitations in our knowledge of outcome in eating disorders. Almost all studies have been compromised by the problem of treatment dropout or non-participation in follow-ups. READ MORE

  3. 8. Towards measuring quantum sound

    Author : Maria Ekström; Chalmers tekniska högskola; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; surface acoustic wave; interdigital transducer; artificial atom; qubit; superconducting circuits; cryogenic temperature; phonon; gigahertz frequency; quantum acoustics; unidirectional transducer;

    Abstract : One of the most fundamental phenomena occurring in nature is the interaction between single atoms and electromagnetic fields. This is studied in quantum optics to probe the quantum nature of the system. In appended Paper I, we demonstrated that an artificial atom can couple to propagating sound, which is the acoustic analogue of quantum optics. READ MORE

  4. 9. Measuring the solar atmosphere

    Author : Jaime de la Cruz Rodríguez; Göran Scharmer; Dan Kiselman; Mats Carlsson; Gianna Cauzzi; Stockholms universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Sun; Chromosphere; Spectropolarimetry; Solar observations; Spectral lines; Solar magnetic fields; Astronomy; Astronomi; Astronomy; astronomi;

    Abstract : The new CRISP filter at the Swedish 1-m Solar Telescope provides opportunities for observing the solar atmosphere with unprecedented spatial resolution and cadence. In order to benefit from the high quality of observational data from this instrument, we have developed methods for calibrating and restoring polarized Stokes images, obtained at optical and near infrared wavelengths, taking into account field-of-view variations of the filter properties. 5. 10. Measuring Apps' Privacy-Friendliness : Introducing transparency to apps' data access behavior

    Author : Nurul Momen; Lothar Fritsch; Tobias Pulls; Einar Snekkenes; Karlstads universitet; []
    Keywords : NATURVETENSKAP; NATURAL SCIENCES; Mobile Apps; User data; Transparency; Privacy; Data protection; Computer Science; Datavetenskap;

    Abstract : Mobile apps brought unprecedented convenience to everyday life, and nowadays, hardly any interactive service exists without having an interface through an app. The rich functionalities of apps rely on the pervasive capabilities of the mobile device, such as its cameras and other types of sensors.
