  1. 1. On the influence of surface roughness on rolling contact forces

    Author : Oskar Lundberg; Ines Lopez Arteaga; Leif Kari; Matthias Kröger; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; Rolling contact; Surface roughness; Contact forces; Contact modelling; Friction; Road; Asphalt; Substrate; Test-rig; Sliding; Stick–slip; Tyre; Rubber; Tread-block; Wheel–rail interaction; Vehicle and Maritime Engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Abstract : Road vehicle tyres, railway wheels and ball bearings all generate rolling contact forces which are transferred within a finite area of contact between the rolling element and the substrate. Either it is visible or not for the human eye, a certain degree of roughness is always present on the contacting surfaces and it influences the generation of both vertical and lateral contactforces. 2. 2. Vibrations induced by surface roughness in nonlinear rolling contacts

    Author : Oskar Erik Lundberg; Ines Lopez Arteaga; Svante Finnveden; Will Graham; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Rolling contact; nonlinear contact; contact stiffness; contact filter; state-dependent method; relative displacement; wheel-rail contact; Vehicle and Maritime Engineering; Farkostteknik;

    Abstract : For efficient transportation in either trains, busses or passenger cars, rolling elements such as wheels, tyres, bearings and transmission elements are fundamental. The energy efficiency and the generation of noise and vibrations in rolling contacts depend on the surface roughness of contacting bodies. READ MORE

  3. 3. Wheel-rail contact modelling in vehicle dynamics simulation

    Author : Matin Shahzamanian Sichani; Mats Berg; Roger Enblom; Elena Kabo; KTH; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wheel-rail contact; non-elliptic contact; vehicle-track interaction; rail vehicle dynamics; rolling contact; MBS; virtual penetration; Järnvägsgruppen - Fordonsteknik; Järnvägsgruppen - Fordonsteknik; Järnvägsgruppen - Tribologi; The KTH Railway Group - Tribology;

    Abstract : The wheel-rail contact is at the core of all research related to vehicle-track interaction. This tiny interface governs the dynamic performance of rail vehicles through the loads it transmits and, like any high stress concentration zone, it is subjected to serious damage phenomena. 5. 5. Cam Roller Contact : Surfaces and Tribology

    Author : Frédéric Cabanettes; Bengt-Göran Rosén; Ulf Olofsson; Högskolan i Halmstad; []
    Keywords : ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; wear reduction; camshaft; roller; surface topography; relocation; elasto plastic rough contact; elasto hydrodynamic lubrication; Mechanical engineering; Maskinteknik;

    Abstract : The automotive industry and the design of engines are strongly ruled by performance and legislation demands. In the valve train, mechanical components such as camshafts and rollers are defined by specifications including more and more constraints concerning their ability to face wear thus prolonging lifetime.
