  1. 1. Fibromodulin and Dystrophin in Atherosclerosis: Novel roles for extracellular matrix in plaque development

    Author : Annelie Shami; Kärlväggsbiologi; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES; Atherosclerosis; fibromodulin; dystrophin; carotid artery; lipid accumulation; restenosis; plaque;

    Abstract : Cardiovascular disease represents nearly half the cases of noncommunicable diseases worldwide and is the leading global cause of death. The main underlying cause is atherosclerosis, and in atherosclerotic plaque progression the structure, composition and integrity of a dynamic extracellular matrix (ECM) is one very important factor. 2. 2. On approaches to periodontal infection control

    Author : Cristiano Tomasi; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The purpose of the project was to gain understanding of clinical possibilities and applicability of non-surgical periodontal therapy. A clinical study was designed to compare a full-mouth ultrasonic debridement approach with the traditional approach of consecutive sessions of quadrant-wise scaling/root planing with respect to the clinical outcome and long term stability. 3. 3. Salvadora persica (MISWAK) : an effective way of killing oral pathogens

    Author : Abier Hamed Sofrata; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : Miswak; Salvadora persica; chewing stick; traditional medicine; gingivitis; periodontitis; dental plaque; plaque pH; salivary flow; acid production; microelectrodes; oral hygiene; subgingival microbiota; antibacterial agent; isothiocyanate; chromatography; Porphyromonas gingivalis; Aggregatibacter actinomycetemcomitans;

    Abstract : Mechanical removal of dental plaque is regarded as an effective means of controlling the progression of dental caries and periodontal disease. The habitual use of chewing sticks (Miswak) as an oral hygiene method is still wildly spread throughout parts of Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. READ MORE

  4. 4. Antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory agents in experimental gingivitis

    Author : Satoshi Sekino; Göteborgs universitet; []
    Keywords : MEDICIN OCH HÄLSOVETENSKAP; MEDICAL AND HEALTH SCIENCES;

    Abstract : The main objectives of the present series of experiment was to evaluate i) the microbial changes that occurred in plaque during de novo plaque formation, ii) the influence of the number of bacteria in saliva on de novo plaque formation, iii) the effect of a chlorhexidine regimen on the recolonization of bacterial species in plaque and saliva, iv) the effect of systemic administration of ibuprofen on gingivitis development and de novo plaque formation and v) the effect of a mouthrinse containing Listerine® on gingivitis development and de novo plaque formation.Subjects with no signs of periodontal disease were recruited. 5. 5. Periodontal implications of Salvadora persica L

    Author : Reham A Al-Babtain; Karolinska Institutet; Karolinska Institutet; []
    Keywords : ;

    Abstract : Periodontal disease is a major public health problem throughout the world and is the most common cause of tooth loss in adults. For periodontitis to develop, specific gram-negative, anaerobic bacteria must predominate in the subgingival microflora, but simple the presence of these bacteria is insufficient to cause periodontal disease as disease progression involves a complex, sequential relationship between infection, inflammation and tissue destruction.
