  1. 1. Mechanistic-Empirical Modeling of Permanent Deformation in Asphalt Concrete Layers

    Author : Erik Oscarsson; Trafik och väg; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; permanent deformation; modeling; Mechanistic-Empirical; rutting; asphalt concrete; full-scale pavements;

    Abstract : Three mechanistic-empirical permanent deformation models were evaluated under Swedish conditions with respect to traffic, climate and materials using accelerated pavement testing and long-term pavement performance studies. The mechanistic-empirical pavement design guide (M E PDG), the incremental-recursive mechanistic-empirical CalME model (CalME), and the PErmanent Deformation of asphalt concrete layer for ROads (PEDRO) model generally showed both useful features and limitations. 2. 2. Prediction of permanent deformations in asphalt concrete using the mechanistic-empirical pavement design guide

    Author : Erik Oscarsson; Trafik och väg; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; permanent deformation; design guide; asphalt concrete; mechanistic empirical;

    Abstract : Permanent deformations, or rutting, are internationally considered to be one of the most serious distress mechanisms in asphalt pavements. Deterioration modeling is an important tool for performance prediction and diagnostics of pavements. READ MORE

  3. 3. Mechanistic-Empirical Modelling of Flexible Pavement Performance : Verifications Using APT Measurements

    Author : Abubeker W. Ahmed; Sigurdur Erlingsson; Hervè Di Benedetto; Statens väg- och transportforskningsinstitut; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Performance; Deformation; Model not math ; Rutting wheel ; Viscoelasticity; Elasticity; Axle load; Flexible pavement; Laboratory not an organization ; Test; Thesis; Heavy vehicle simulator; Wheel tracking test; 32 Road: Pavement design; 32 Road: Pavement design; Transportvetenskap; Civil and Architectural Engineering;

    Abstract : Mechanistic-Empirical  (M-E)  pavement  design  procedures  are  composed  of  a  reliable  response model to estimate the state of stress in the pavement and distress models in order to predict the different types of pavement distresses due to the prevailing traffic and environmental conditions. One of the main objectives of this study was to develop a response model based on multilayer elastic  theory   (MLET)  with  improved  computational  performance  by   optimizing  the   time consuming parts of the MLET processes. 4. 4. On enhancing joint risk management throughout a project's lifecycle : Empirical studies of Swedish construction projects

    Author : Ekaterina Osipova; Stuart Green; Luleå tekniska universitet; []
    Keywords : TEKNIK OCH TEKNOLOGIER; ENGINEERING AND TECHNOLOGY; Construction Engineering and Management; Byggproduktion;

    Abstract : Due to their complexity, construction projects involve significant risks thatmust be managed in order to meet the main project objectives in terms of cost,time and quality. While some risks can be foreseen at the beginning of aproject and allocated among the project actors, other risks are difficult topredict. READ MORE

  5. 5. Philosophical Issues in Medical Intervention Research

    Author : Jesper Jerkert; Sven Ove Hansson; Tor Sandqvist; John Cantwell; Nils-Eric Sahlin; KTH; []
    Keywords : HUMANIORA; HUMANITIES; scientific method; study design; methodology; alternative medicine; medical research; individualized treatments; eligibility; confounders; evidence; evidence-based medicine; mechanistic reasoning; hierarchy of evidence; Filosofi; Philosophy;

    Abstract : The thesis consists of an introduction and two papers. In the introduction a brief historical survey of empirical investigations into the effectiveness of medicinal interventions is given. Also, the main ideas of the EBM (evidence-based medicine) movement are presented. READ MORE
