1. Mechanistic-Empirical Modeling of Permanent Deformation in Asphalt Concrete Layers
Abstract : Three mechanistic-empirical permanent deformation models were evaluated under Swedish conditions with respect to traffic, climate and materials using accelerated pavement testing and long-term pavement performance studies. The mechanistic-empirical pavement design guide (M E PDG), the incremental-recursive mechanistic-empirical CalME model (CalME), and the PErmanent Deformation of asphalt concrete layer for ROads (PEDRO) model generally showed both useful features and limitations. 2. Monitoring of product variants in biopharmaceutical downstream processing : Mechanistic and data-driven modeling approaches
Abstract : During the manufacturing of biopharmaceuticals, a multistep purification strategy is employed to remove process-related impurities and product variants, to achieve high product quality, assuring patients’ safety. To guarantee that biopharmaceuticals are safe and to accomplish quality, strict policies were established by regulatory agencies as well as guiding principles, such as Quality by Design and process analytical technology. 3. Predictive Modeling of Lake Eutrophication
Abstract : This thesis presents predictive models for important variables concerning eutrophication effects in lakes. The keystone is a dynamic phosphorus model based on ordinary differential equations. READ MORE

4. Modeling and Optimization of Reversed-Phase Chromatography : Effects of Modulators and Temperature
Abstract : Many widespread diseases, such as diabetes, various types of cancer, and aggressive versions of influenza, are treated or prevented with biopharmaceuticals. Biopharmaceuticals are drugs that are based on proteins, peptides, antibodies, attenuated viruses (vaccines), and other biomolecules that are synthesized predominately in bacteria, yeast, and mammalian cells. 5. Modeling and Mechanistic Investigation of α-synuclein aggregation
Abstract : Our understanding of the α-synuclein aggregation process and the consequences thereof is currently limited, which in turn prevents the development of targeted therapeutic interventions. The work presented here, as a part of this thesis, is focused on expanding our understanding of the molecular events involved in α-synuclein aggregation. READ MORE
